HDFC INFINIA Metal Edition Review: Is It Worth ₹14,750 a Year?
Updated 5 September 2026 · By Card Jaano. Fees and features are as listed on HDFC Bank’s own product page, the INFINIA rewards and lounge terms, the SmartBuy accelerated earn rules and the bank’s Key Fact Statement cum MITC on this date. Check the issuer’s site before you act on anything here.
At a Glance
| Availability | By invitation only. HDFC selects customers and contacts them directly |
| Joining Fee | ₹12,500 + GST (₹14,750 all in) for cards sourced after 18 October 2021 |
| Annual Fee | ₹12,500 + GST, waived on spends of ₹10 lakh in the preceding 12 months |
| Best Suited For | High spenders who redeem for travel and can push ₹10 lakh a year through one card |
| Reward Type | HDFC Reward Points, worth ₹1 each on SmartBuy flights, hotels, Apple products and Tanishq vouchers |
The INFINIA Metal Edition is the top of HDFC’s consumer range and, for anyone who redeems on SmartBuy, still one of the highest returning cards in India. It earns 5 Reward Points per ₹150 and each point is worth ₹1 on flight and hotel bookings, so the base rate is 3.33%.
That is roughly four times what a mid-tier rewards card returns. It costs ₹14,750 a year, but the fee is waived at ₹10 lakh of spending and the renewal alone hands back 12,500 points.
The card is invite only, so the real question is not whether it is worth applying for. It is whether you spend enough to make the maths work.
Rewards & Benefits
Reward rate and earn structure
| Spend category | Earn rate | Cap |
|---|---|---|
| Retail spends, including insurance, utilities and education | 5 Reward Points per ₹150 | 2,00,000 Reward Points per statement cycle overall |
| SmartBuy hotels, IGP.com, Jockey, Pharmeasy | 10X Reward Points | 15,000 accelerated points per calendar month and per day, across all SmartBuy categories |
| SmartBuy flights, Instant Vouchers, Apple, Nykaa, Myntra, RedBus, Zoomcar, MMT holidays | 5X Reward Points | |
| SmartBuy ConfirmTicket train bookings | 3X Reward Points | |
| Insurance | 5 Reward Points per ₹150 | 10,000 points per month, since 1 July 2025 |
| Utilities, telecom and grocery | 5 Reward Points per ₹150 | 2,000 points per calendar month, each category |
| Fuel, rent, property management, government spends, wallet loads, EasyEMI | No Reward Points | Not applicable |
Points post in multiples of ₹150, so residual amounts and any transaction under ₹150 earn nothing. Two conditions cost real money if you miss them.
Converting a retail transaction into SmartEMI reverses the points already earned on it. And from 1 July 2026 the SmartBuy brand vouchers bought through GyFTR or Woohoo carry their own 3,000 accelerated point monthly limit, which sits inside the 15,000 rather than on top of it, so the old habit of buying vouchers to manufacture 10X no longer scales.
What a Reward Point is actually worth
| Redemption route | Value per point | Monthly limit |
|---|---|---|
| SmartBuy flights and hotels | ₹1, covering up to 70% of the booking | 1,50,000 points, shared with airmiles |
| Apple products and Tanishq vouchers on SmartBuy | ₹1, covering up to 70% of the bill | One Apple product and 50,000 points of Tanishq vouchers per quarter |
| Airmiles transfer | Up to 1 Airmile per point | Shared with the 1,50,000 travel limit |
| Products and vouchers | Up to ₹0.50 | Within the 2,00,000 per cycle overall limit |
| Statement credit | Up to ₹0.30 | 50,000 points per calendar month |
The arithmetic is what makes this card. Spend ₹10 lakh in a year and you earn 33,333 Reward Points, worth ₹33,333 against flights and hotels. Add the 12,500 renewal points and the fee waiver at that same ₹10 lakh, and the card returns about ₹45,800 of travel value for nothing.
Redeem the same points as statement credit at ₹0.30 and that ₹33,333 collapses to ₹10,000, which is a 1% card. So the card lives or dies on whether you actually book travel through SmartBuy.
Points are valid for three years, longer than the two years HDFC gives most cards, but they are nullified entirely if the card goes unused for 365 days.
Welcome, renewal and lounge access
| Benefit | Detail |
|---|---|
| Welcome benefit | 12,500 Reward Points on fee realisation and card activation, plus Club Marriott membership for the first year |
| Renewal benefit | 12,500 Reward Points on fee realisation and card activation |
| Domestic lounge access | Unlimited, primary and add-on, by swiping the card. Visa cardholders pay a ₹2 transaction fee per visit |
| International lounge access | Unlimited via Priority Pass at 1,000 plus lounges, for primary and add-on holders on their own Priority Pass |
| Guest lounge visits | USD 27 plus taxes per guest per visit |
| Golf | Unlimited complimentary lessons and games, with a 100% green fee waiver at select courses worldwide |
| ITC hotels | Stay three nights and pay for two, plus 1+1 on the buffet at participating properties |
| Insurance | ₹3 crore air accident death cover, ₹50 lakh emergency overseas hospitalisation, ₹9 lakh credit shield |
| Add-on cards | Lifetime free |
The unlimited lounge access is the benefit worth naming carefully, because it is genuinely unlimited on both sides and it extends to add-on cardholders on their own Priority Pass.
Guests are not free at USD 27 a visit, so a family of four travelling on one Priority Pass will still pay for three.
Fees & Charges
| Charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | ₹12,500 + GST |
| Renewal fee | ₹12,500 + GST, waived on ₹10 lakh spends in the preceding 12 months |
| Finance charge | 1.99% per month, 23.88% annualised |
| Foreign currency markup | 2% of the transaction value |
| Late payment fee | Not levied on INFINIA or INFINIA Metal Edition |
| Over limit charge | Not levied on INFINIA or INFINIA Metal Edition |
| Cash advance transaction fee | The 2.5% or ₹500 fee excludes INFINIA and INFINIA Metal Edition, but finance charges apply from the withdrawal date |
| Rewards redemption fee | None. The ₹99 per request and the ₹50 cashback redemption charge both exclude this card |
| Fuel surcharge waiver | 1% on transactions of ₹400 to ₹1,00,000, capped at ₹1,000 per billing cycle |
| Payment return charge | 2% of the payment, minimum ₹450 |
| Rent, fuel above ₹15,000, utility above ₹50,000 a month | 1% fee on the full amount, capped at ₹4,999 |
Reaching the ₹10 lakh waiver means about ₹83,000 a month, and cash on call, balance transfers and cash withdrawals are excluded from that count.
Most holders who clear it do so by routing insurance premiums, school fees paid directly to the institution, and large one-off purchases through the card, all of which do earn points here where many cards exclude them.
The charge that quietly erodes value is the 1% category fee HDFC now applies to rent, to fuel transactions above ₹15,000 and to utility spends above ₹50,000 in a month.
Those categories already earn no points or capped points, so putting them on this card costs you 1% and returns very little. Every fee attracts 18% GST on top.
Eligibility & Documents Required
HDFC does not publish an income or age threshold for this card. Membership is offered by invitation only: the bank assesses your profile and contacts you directly if you qualify, which in practice means an existing relationship, a strong spending record and a clean bureau history.
There is no online application form to fill and no eligibility checker that will surface it. If you are approached, the usual KYC applies, so keep PAN, proof of identity and address, and current income proof ready. Anyone comparing this card without an invitation should look at the Diners Club Black instead.
Pros & Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| 3.33% back when points are redeemed for travel at ₹1 each | Only 1% if you redeem as statement credit at ₹0.30 |
| Unlimited domestic and international lounge access, add-ons included | Invite only, with no way to apply |
| No late payment fee, no over limit charge, no redemption fee | SmartBuy accelerated earning capped at 15,000 points a month |
| Lowest markup in the HDFC range at 2%, and 1.99% monthly finance charge | ₹10 lakh a year to waive a ₹14,750 fee |
INFINIA Metal vs Competitors
| Card | Annual fee | Waiver spend | Forex markup | Fuel surcharge waiver |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| INFINIA Metal Edition | ₹12,500 + GST | ₹10 lakh | 2% | Capped at ₹1,000 per cycle |
| INFINIA, sourced before 18 October 2021 | ₹10,000 + GST | ₹8 lakh | 2% | Capped at ₹1,000 per cycle |
| Diners Club Black Metal Edition | ₹10,000 + GST | ₹8 lakh | 2% | Not applicable |
Against HDFC’s own top tier the differences are narrow. Older INFINIA holders sourced before 18 October 2021 keep a cheaper card with a lower waiver bar, and there is no reason to migrate to the Metal Edition voluntarily.
The Diners Club Black Metal Edition matches the fee and markup but drops the fuel surcharge waiver, and its acceptance depends on Diners terminals, which is still the practical argument for holding a Visa or Mastercard INFINIA instead.
How to Apply
You cannot apply. HDFC states that membership to the INFINIA Metal Edition is available by invitation only, and the bank informs you personally if you qualify.
There is no branch route and no online form. If you already hold the card, controls, limits and redemptions run through NetBanking, the MobileBanking app, the MyCards portal at mycards.hdfc.bank.in, PayZapp, or WhatsApp banking on 7070022222.
INFINIA holders also get a dedicated 24 hour customer care line and a separate concierge desk on 1800 118 887.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the INFINIA Metal Edition annual fee waived?
Yes, on ₹10 lakh of spends in the 12 months before the renewal date, which is about ₹83,000 a month. Cash withdrawals, balance transfers and cash on call do not count. The fee is ₹12,500 plus 18% GST, so ₹14,750 if you miss it.
How many lounge visits does the INFINIA card give?
Unlimited, both in India and abroad, for primary and add-on cardholders. Domestic access works by swiping the card, with a ₹2 transaction fee per visit for Visa cardholders, and international access runs through Priority Pass. Guests are charged USD 27 plus taxes per visit.
What is 1 INFINIA Reward Point worth?
₹1 on SmartBuy flights and hotels and on Apple products and Tanishq vouchers, where points can cover up to 70% of the bill. It falls to ₹0.50 on general products and vouchers and to ₹0.30 as statement credit, which is why redemption choice matters more than earn rate on this card.
How do I get the HDFC INFINIA Metal Credit Card?
Only by invitation. HDFC assesses eligibility internally and contacts selected customers, so there is no application form, no branch route and no published income criteria.
Does the INFINIA card charge a late payment fee?
No. HDFC’s MITC excludes INFINIA and INFINIA Metal Edition from late payment charges and from over limit charges. Interest still applies at 1.99% per month, or 23.88% annualised, if you carry a balance.
Do rent and fuel spends earn points on the INFINIA card?
No. Fuel, rent, property management, government transactions, wallet loads and EasyEMI earn nothing, and rent plus fuel above ₹15,000 per transaction attract a 1% fee. Utilities, telecom and grocery do earn, but only up to 2,000 points a month each.
Bottom Line
If you are invited and you spend ₹10 lakh a year, take it. At that level the fee vanishes, the 12,500 renewal points arrive anyway, and 33,333 earned points buy roughly ₹33,333 of flights and hotels through SmartBuy.
Add unlimited lounge access for you and your add-on holders, a 2% forex markup and no late payment or redemption fees, and nothing else in HDFC’s consumer range comes close.
Do not take it if your annual card spending sits nearer ₹4 lakh or ₹5 lakh, because you will pay ₹14,750 for a return of about ₹16,600 in travel value and far less if you redeem any other way.
Do not take it either if you never book travel, since statement credit at ₹0.30 turns a 3.33% card into a 1% one and the fee stops making sense.
Anyone weighing HDFC’s top tier should read our Diners Club Black Metal Edition review and the Diners Club Black review, and readers looking outside HDFC for an invite-only premium card should compare the AURUM SBI Card.
