The Tata Neu Plus SBI Card is the entry-level card in the Tata Neu and SBI Card partnership, sitting below the Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card. Its single biggest hook is that the ₹499 joining fee comes back to you as 499 NeuCoins, so the first year effectively costs nothing beyond GST. If you buy groceries on BigBasket, medicines on Tata 1mg, electronics at Croma or clothes at Westside, you earn 2% back as NeuCoins, and up to 7% when you route select category purchases through the Tata Neu app. If you don’t shop at Tata brands, this card earns you 1% and very little else.

Rewards & Benefits

Reward rate & earn structure

Everything you earn on this card is a NeuCoin, and 1 NeuCoin equals ₹1 of savings inside the Tata ecosystem. There are three earn rates:

Where you spendNeuCoins earnedEffective value back
Tata Neu app/website and partner Tata brands2 per ₹1002%
Select categories on the Tata Neu app/website2% + extra 5%Up to 7%
Everything else, including UPI on the RuPay variant1 per ₹1001%

The partner Tata brands named in the card’s terms are Air India and Air India Express, BigBasket, Tata CLiQ, Taj Hotels (IHCL), Tata 1mg, Titan and Tanishq, Croma, Westside and Qmin.

Now the part most reviews skip: the caps. NeuCoin earning is capped every month on five categories:

CategoryMonthly cap
Grocery1,000 NeuCoins
Insurance2,000 NeuCoins
Utility transactions2,000 NeuCoins
Telecom and cable2,000 NeuCoins
UPI spends (RuPay variant)500 NeuCoins per statement cycle

The grocery cap is the one that will bite you. At 2% on BigBasket, you hit 1,000 NeuCoins at ₹50,000 of grocery spend in a month; past that, grocery purchases earn you nothing extra. The 500-NeuCoin UPI cap means UPI spending stops rewarding you after ₹50,000 in a cycle at the 1% rate.

Several categories earn zero NeuCoins entirely: fuel, wallet loads, gift and prepaid card loads, voucher purchases, rent payments, government transactions, education payments, cash advances, Flexipay conversions, and payment of card fees and charges. NeuCoins are also rounded down to the nearest whole number on every transaction, so a ₹140 spend at 1% earns 1 NeuCoin, not 1.4.

Redemption options & point value

NeuCoins are a closed-loop currency. They land in your NeuPass account automatically within 7 working days of your statement cycle. There is no manual redemption request, and no reward catalogue to browse.

You can spend them at 1 NeuCoin = ₹1 through the Tata Pay option on Tata Neu, Air India Express, BigBasket, Croma and IHCL hotels; through the “Use my NeuCoins” option at Tata CLiQ and Tata 1mg (and at Titan/Tanishq only via Tata Neu); and at the counter in Croma, IHCL hotels and Westside stores.

What you cannot do is convert NeuCoins to cash, use them against your card outstanding, or move them to another loyalty programme. That is the central trade-off of this card: the redemption rate is a clean ₹1 with no conversion loss, but only if you were going to spend inside the Tata ecosystem anyway.

Welcome benefit

You get 499 NeuCoins within 15 days of the joining fee being realised, worth ₹499, which offsets the ₹499 joining fee exactly. You still pay the 18% GST on the fee, so the true first-year cost is roughly ₹90.

Milestone benefits

There are none. This card has no annual spend milestone that unlocks vouchers or bonus NeuCoins. The only spend-linked benefits are the ₹1,00,000 annual fee reversal and the ₹50,000 quarterly lounge trigger, both covered below.

Dining benefits

There is no dining programme, no complimentary EazyDiner or Swiggy tie-up, and no accelerated rate at restaurants generally. Dining spends earn the base 1%. The exceptions are Qmin (Taj’s food delivery service) and IHCL hotel restaurants, which are partner Tata brands and earn 2%.

Travel benefits

Air India, Air India Express and Taj Hotels bookings earn 2% as NeuCoins, and NeuCoins can be spent back on Air India Express and IHCL bookings at ₹1 each. Beyond that, there is no travel insurance, no concierge, no hotel status and no international lounge access. Forex markup is a standard 3.5%, so this is not a card to carry abroad.

Airport lounge access (domestic/international)

Domestic lounge visits4 per calendar year (maximum 1 per quarter)
Spend condition₹50,000 in the previous calendar quarter
First quarterSpend condition waived for the quarter of card issuance
International lounge visitsNone
Who can use itPrimary cardholder only

Add-on cardholders and guests pay the lounge’s own rates. On the Visa variant, ₹2 is charged to your card at the lounge desk as a validation transaction and is not refunded. Note also that spend-based lounge eligibility only goes live from the 7th day of the first month of each quarter.

Insurance & protection covers

This is a thin section, and honestly so: the Tata Neu Plus SBI Card carries no complimentary air accident cover, no purchase protection and no travel insurance. SBI Card offers a complimentary lost/stolen card cover on certain cards in its portfolio; whether this specific card is on that list should be confirmed from your welcome kit.

Fees & Charges

All fees below are exclusive of GST. 18% GST applies on top of every fee, charge and interest amount.

Joining & annual fee, and how to get it waived

The joining fee is ₹499 and the renewal fee is ₹499 from the second year, charged in your card anniversary month. The renewal fee is reversed if you spend ₹1,00,000 or more in the preceding year.

That threshold matters. At ₹1,00,000 of annual spend, you need roughly ₹8,400 a month on the card to keep it free. If your Tata spending is occasional and your total card spend is below that, you are paying ₹589 (fee plus GST) every year for a 1% card, and there are lifetime-free 1% cards that do the same job for nothing.

Forex markup

3.5% of the transaction amount, plus GST. On a ₹50,000 foreign spend that is ₹1,750 plus ₹315 GST, more than the entire annual fee. This also applies to transactions of ₹1,000 or more billed in rupees at merchants registered overseas.

Interest rate & finance charges

The current finance charge on unsecured SBI credit cards is 3.75% per month, which is 45% per annum, applied from the transaction date if you do not clear the total amount due. The interest-free period runs 20 to 50 days and only applies if the previous month’s balance was cleared in full. Cash advances get no interest-free period at all. Interest runs from the day of withdrawal.

Minimum Amount Due is calculated as 100% of GST + 100% of EMI amount + 100% of fees and charges + 100% of finance charges + any overlimit amount + 2% of the remaining balance. Paying only the minimum keeps your account current but leaves the balance compounding at 45% a year.

Fuel surcharge waiver

1% surcharge waiver on fuel transactions between ₹500 and ₹4,000, capped at ₹250 per statement cycle. Fuel spends earn no NeuCoins at all, so fuel on this card is purely a surcharge-waiver play.

Cash advance & other charges

The honest reading: if your monthly Tata spending is under roughly ₹15,000, the Plus variant’s lower fee wins. Above that, the Infinity’s 5% base rate on Tata brands recovers its extra ₹1,000 fee quickly. And if you don’t shop at Tata brands at all, a lifetime-free card like Amazon Pay ICICI gives you the same 1% without any annual fee to chase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Tata Neu Plus SBI Card annual fee waived? The ₹499 renewal fee is reversed if you spend ₹1,00,000 or more in the previous year. The first-year joining fee is not waived, but you receive 499 NeuCoins within 15 days of the fee being realised, which offsets it fully in value.

How many lounge visits does the Tata Neu Plus SBI Card give? Four domestic airport lounge visits per calendar year, capped at one per quarter. You must have spent ₹50,000 in the previous calendar quarter to qualify, except in the quarter your card is issued, when the condition is waived. There is no international lounge access.

What is the minimum salary for the Tata Neu Plus SBI Card? SBI Card does not publish a fixed income requirement for this card. Approval depends on your income, credit history and SBI Card’s internal underwriting. Applicants are typically 21 to 70 years old with a regular income, salaried or self-employed.

Is 1 NeuCoin equal to 1 rupee? Yes. 1 NeuCoin equals ₹1 of savings when spent within the Tata Neu ecosystem. NeuCoins cannot be converted to cash, credited against your card outstanding, or transferred to another loyalty programme.

Do I earn NeuCoins on UPI payments? Only on the RuPay variant. UPI transactions earn 1% as NeuCoins, capped at 500 NeuCoins per statement cycle, so earning stops after about ₹50,000 of UPI spend in a cycle. The Visa variant cannot be linked to UPI.

Which spends earn no NeuCoins on this card? Fuel, wallet loads, gift and prepaid card loads, voucher purchases, rent, government transactions, education payments, cash advances, Flexipay EMI conversions, and payment of card fees and charges.

Tata Neu Plus SBI Card or Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card: which is better? The Infinity earns 5% on Tata brands against the Plus card’s 2%, plus 1.5% elsewhere and 8 domestic lounge visits, but costs ₹1,499 and needs ₹3,00,000 of annual spend for its fee waiver. If you spend under about ₹15,000 a month on Tata brands, the Plus variant is the cheaper fit.

Do NeuCoins expire? NeuCoin validity is governed by Tata Neu’s NeuPass programme rather than by SBI Card. Check the current expiry policy in the Tata Neu app before letting a balance build up.

When do NeuCoins get credited? Automatically to your NeuPass account within 7 working days of your statement cycle. There is no manual redemption request.

Is the Tata Neu Plus SBI Card lifetime free? No. It carries a ₹499 joining fee and a ₹499 annual fee, both plus 18% GST. The annual fee is reversible on ₹1,00,000 of yearly spend.

Bottom Line

Get this card if you already buy from Tata brands every month (groceries on BigBasket, medicines on Tata 1mg, electronics at Croma, clothes at Westside) and you route those purchases through the Tata Neu app. For that shopper, 2% base with up to 7% on select categories, a first year that costs only the GST, and four lounge visits a year at a ₹499 fee is genuinely good value. Take the RuPay variant so your UPI spends earn too.

Skip this card if your Tata spending is occasional. Outside the Tata ecosystem this is a 1% card with a ₹589 annual cost unless you push ₹1,00,000 through it, and the rewards are locked into a currency you can only spend at one group’s stores. If you want a simple everyday card with no fee to justify, a lifetime-free cashback card serves you better. Skip it too if you travel abroad often: the 3.5% forex markup and zero travel insurance make it the wrong card for that wallet.

Fees and features listed here are as of 10 August 2026. Card terms change; confirm the current fee, reward rate and caps on sbicard.com before you apply.
