| Joining Fee | ₹499 + 18% GST (₹589 all-in) |
| Annual Fee | ₹499 + GST, waived on ₹1,00,000 annual spends |
| Best Suited For | People who fill fuel at BPCL pumps and spend ₹4,000–₹10,000 a month on fuel |
| Reward Type | Reward Points (4 points = ₹1), redeemable for BPCL fuel |
The BPCL SBI Card is the entry-level version of SBI Card’s fuel partnership with Bharat Petroleum. It gives you 13 Reward Points per ₹100 spent at BPCL pumps, which works out to 3.25% back, plus a 1% fuel surcharge waiver, 4.25% total value back on fuel, for a ₹499 joining fee.
That single number is the whole reason to hold this card. There is no lounge access, no insurance cover, no milestone benefit and no travel perk. And from 1 May 2026, SBI Card doubled the spending you need for the fee waiver, from ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 a year, a change that hurts exactly the casual users this card was built for. Here is the honest maths on whether it still earns its place in your wallet.
Rewards & Benefits
Reward rate & earn structure
Everything on this card is paid in SBI Reward Points. One Reward Point is worth ₹0.25, so 4 points = ₹1.
| Where you spend | Points per ₹100 | Effective rate | Monthly cap on accelerated points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel at BPCL pumps | 13 | 3.25% | 1,300 points (about ₹10,000 of fuel) |
| Groceries, departmental stores, dining, movies | 5 | 1.25% | 5,000 points (about ₹1,00,000 of spend) |
| Everything else | 1 | 0.25% | No cap |
The 1,300-point cap on fuel is the one that matters. It binds at roughly ₹10,000 of BPCL fuel in a billing cycle, beyond that, extra fuel spends drop to the base 1 point per ₹100. If you fill up more than ₹10,000 a month, the headline 4.25% stops applying to the excess.
Note that Reward Points are not earned on wallet loads and mobile recharges. SBI Card has also progressively pulled points off rent, utility and similar categories on parts of its portfolio, so don’t build a strategy around anything outside the three rows above.
Redemption options & point value
You can use your points in three ways:
- Instant fuel redemption at select BPCL outlets, swipe, tell the attendant you want to redeem, and the points pay for the fuel at ₹0.25 each. This is the cleanest use and the reason the card exists.
- Shop n Smile catalogue, vouchers and merchandise from brands on SBI Card’s rewards portal.
- Cash / statement credit via SBI Card, again at ₹0.25 per point. From 1 April 2026, redemption to statement credit is capped at 60,000 points a month across SBI Cards, not a limit you will hit on this card.
A redemption handling fee of ₹99 + GST applies on physical products and certain vouchers, so redeem in larger batches rather than every few thousand points.
Welcome benefit
2,000 activation bonus Reward Points, worth ₹500, credited roughly 20 days after your joining fee is realised. In effect the welcome bonus covers about 85% of the ₹589 you paid to get the card. Some acquisition channels also run a Visa or Amazon voucher offer on top; treat those as promotional and check what is live when you apply.
Milestone benefits
None. This card has no annual spend milestone, no bonus voucher tier and no anniversary benefit. Your only spend-linked target is the ₹1,00,000 fee waiver.
Dining benefits
No separate dining programme, no restaurant discount tie-up. Dining simply falls in the 5X category at 5 points per ₹100 (1.25%), sharing the 5,000-point monthly pool with groceries, departmental stores and movies.
Travel benefits
None on this variant. If travel benefits matter to you, this is the wrong card, see the comparison table below.
Airport lounge access
None. The base BPCL SBI Card carries no domestic or international lounge visits. Lounge access on the BPCL partnership starts with the OCTANE variant, which gives 4 domestic visits a year (1 per quarter) for a ₹1,499 fee.
Insurance & protection covers
None. There is no air accident cover, no personal accident cover and no purchase protection. Standard SBI Card lost-card liability protection applies once you report the card lost, but that is a baseline feature and not a benefit of this card.
Fees & Charges
All fees below are exclusive of GST; 18% GST applies on top of each.

Joining & annual fee, and how to get it waived
You pay ₹499 + GST to get the card, and ₹499 + GST every year after that. From 1 May 2026, SBI Card reversed the renewal fee only if your spends in the preceding year cross ₹1,00,000, the earlier threshold was ₹50,000.
That is ₹8,333 a month, and it is the single most important change to this card in years. A user putting ₹6,000 a month of fuel through it lands at ₹72,000 a year and now pays the fee. To clear ₹1 lakh you have to route groceries and everyday spends through the card too, where you only earn 1.25% or 0.25%.
The fee is small enough that this is not fatal, but it does mean the card only works if you either fill up heavily at BPCL or are willing to make it a primary everyday card.
Forex markup
3.5% on foreign currency transactions, which is the standard SBI Card rate outside its premium range. On a ₹1,00,000 overseas spend that is ₹3,500 before GST. Do not use this card abroad or on international websites.
Interest rate & finance charges
Up to 3.75% per month, which is 45% per annum, charged from the transaction date on any balance you carry. Cash advances attract this from the day of withdrawal with no interest-free period at all. Pay the full statement amount every month; at 45% annualised, one month of revolving wipes out more than a year of fuel rewards.
Late payment charges were also revised on 1 May 2026. Dues up to ₹100 attract nothing, ₹100–₹500 now attracts ₹100 (earlier nil), ₹500–₹1,000 attracts ₹500 (earlier ₹400), and the slabs above that run to ₹1,300. Miss the Minimum Amount Due two cycles running and an extra ₹100 is added each subsequent cycle.
Fuel surcharge waiver
1% waiver on fuel transactions up to ₹4,000 each, capped at ₹100 per billing cycle, about ₹1,200 a year at full use. Unlike most fuel cards, which only start the waiver at ₹400 or ₹500, this one has no minimum transaction value, which genuinely helps two-wheeler owners who fill ₹200–₹300 at a time. The waiver applies at BPCL pumps; treat coverage at non-BPCL pumps as unconfirmed on this variant.
Cash advance & other charges
2.5% with a ₹500 floor, plus interest from day one. Effectively, withdrawing ₹5,000 costs you ₹500 immediately, a 10% charge before interest. Treat the cash limit as an emergency facility only.
Eligibility & Documents Required

Pros & Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| 4.25% value back on BPCL fuel for a ₹499 fee | Fee waiver threshold doubled to ₹1,00,000 from May 2026 |

| Welcome bonus of 2,000 points (₹500) offsets most of the joining fee | Value locked to one fuel brand, worthless if BPCL isn’t near you |

BPCL SBI Card vs Competitors
| BPCL SBI Card | BPCL SBI Card OCTANE | IndianOil HDFC Bank Card | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Joining / annual fee | ₹499 | ₹1,499 | ₹500 |
| Fuel value back | 4.25% at BPCL | 7.25% at BPCL | Up to 5% as Fuel Points at IndianOil |
| Accelerated cap | 1,300 points/cycle | 2,500 points/cycle | 250 Fuel Points/month for 6 months, then 150 |
| Welcome benefit | 2,000 points (₹500) | 6,000 points (₹1,500) | Varies by offer |
| Lounge access | None | 4 domestic visits/year | None |
| Fee waiver spend | ₹1,00,000 | ₹2,00,000 | ₹50,000 |
| Fuel brand | BPCL only | BPCL only | IndianOil only |
The comparison is simpler than it looks. If BPCL is your pump and you spend over roughly ₹8,000 a month on fuel, OCTANE’s higher cap and 7.25% rate beat this card comfortably despite the ₹1,499 fee. If you spend ₹4,000–₹8,000 a month, this card is the better value. If your nearest pump is IndianOil, none of this matters, take the HDFC card, which also still waives its fee at ₹50,000.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the BPCL SBI Card annual fee waived? Yes, but only if you spend ₹1,00,000 or more in the preceding year. This threshold was raised from ₹50,000 with effect from 1 May 2026. Below that, you pay ₹499 + GST at renewal.
How much value back does the BPCL SBI Card give on fuel? 4.25% at BPCL pumps, 13 Reward Points per ₹100 (worth 3.25%) plus a 1% fuel surcharge waiver. The 13X rate applies to the first 1,300 points in a billing cycle, roughly ₹10,000 of fuel.
What is one BPCL SBI Card Reward Point worth? ₹0.25. Four points equal ₹1, whether you redeem for fuel at BPCL, for catalogue items on Shop n Smile, or as cash.
Does the BPCL SBI Card give lounge access? No. The base variant has no domestic or international lounge access. For lounge visits on this partnership you need the BPCL SBI Card OCTANE, which gives 4 domestic visits a year.
What is the minimum salary for the BPCL SBI Card? Roughly ₹3,00,000 a year, though SBI Card assesses each application on its own credit criteria and publishes no guaranteed cut-off. A credit score of 700 or above improves your odds.
Can I redeem BPCL SBI Card points directly for petrol? Yes. Select BPCL outlets support instant redemption at the pump at ₹0.25 per point. You can also redeem through the Shop n Smile catalogue, where a ₹99 redemption fee applies on certain items.
Is there a minimum fuel transaction for the surcharge waiver? No. Unlike most fuel cards that require ₹400 or ₹500, this card waives 1% on fuel transactions of any size up to ₹4,000, capped at ₹100 a billing cycle.
BPCL SBI Card or BPCL SBI Card OCTANE, which is better? OCTANE if your BPCL fuel spend is above roughly ₹8,000 a month, because its 7.25% rate and 2,500-point cap outweigh the extra ₹1,000 of fee. The base card is better below that, and its ₹1,00,000 fee waiver is far easier to hit than OCTANE’s ₹2,00,000.
Does the BPCL SBI Card earn rewards on rent, wallet loads and utilities? No points on wallet loads and recharges. Rent payments carry a ₹199 processing fee, wallet loads above ₹1,000 carry 1%, and utility spends above ₹50,000 in a cycle carry 1%. This is not a card for those categories.
Bottom Line
Get this card if BPCL is genuinely your default pump, you spend ₹4,000–₹10,000 a month on fuel, and you are willing to run enough everyday spending through it to reach ₹1,00,000 a year. In that shape, the card returns roughly ₹3,000–₹5,100 a year against a ₹589 all-in cost, one of the better returns available at this fee level, and a reasonable first credit card.
Skip this card if your nearest pump is IndianOil or HPCL (the brand lock makes the whole proposition worthless), if your total annual card spend is closer to ₹50,000 than ₹1,00,000 (the May 2026 waiver change quietly removed you from the target market), if you want lounge access or insurance cover for your ₹499, or if your BPCL fuel spend is consistently above ₹10,000 a month, in which case the ₹1,499 OCTANE variant is the better buy, not this one.
Fees and features are as stated on 12 August 2026 and change at the issuer’s discretion. Confirm current terms on sbicard.com before you apply.
