Update: Apple Pay is now live in India from 30 September 2026. Apple and Axis Bank both announced it today, and the only cards that work at launch are Axis Bank credit cards on the Visa and Mastercard networks. You can tap to pay with an iPhone or Apple Watch, and pay in apps and on the web, without typing a PIN or OTP at checkout.
At a Glance
| Launch date | 30 September 2026 |
| Cards supported | Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards only |
| Devices | iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch; Mac “coming soon” |
| Named merchants | Apple Store, Blinkit, Croma, Ixigo, Reliance brands, Tata 1mg, Zomato and more |

What This Means for You
If you hold an Axis credit card, update the Axis Bank app and add the card to Apple Wallet from there, or tap “+” in the Wallet app.
The merchant sees a device token, not your card number. Everyone else waits: Apple has not named a second bank, and RuPay cards and debit cards are not in today’s announcements. This does not touch UPI. Axis’s newest card is the Scapia Axis Bank Credit Card.
Based on Apple’s India newsroom post and Axis Bank’s press release, both dated 30 September 2026.
