The HDFC Bank Platinum Edge is a basic rewards card that earns 2 points per ₹200, waives the fuel surcharge up to ₹250 a month and waives its renewal fee at ₹50,000 of yearly spends.

HDFC’s own page says sourcing has stopped, so new customers cannot get it. If you already hold one, the question is whether to keep it as a low-cost fuel card or move your spends to something that returns more.

Rewards & Benefits

Reward rate and earn structure

Spend category Benefit Cap
Retail spends 2 Reward Points per ₹200 Cap not stated on the product page
Premium restaurants 50% more Reward Points Cap not stated on the product page
Utility bills and mobile recharges via PayZapp Extra CashBack along with Reward Points Terms set by the PayZapp offer
Fuel Fuel surcharge waiver Up to ₹250 per month

The base earn works out to 1 point per ₹100. At premium restaurants it rises to 3 points per ₹200.

Redemption and point value

HDFC says points can be redeemed for gifts and air miles, or as CashBack to pay off your outstanding balance.

The product page does not state a rupee value per point, so this review does not put a return figure on the card. Check the redemption value on HDFC NetBanking before you decide how to use your balance.

Fuel, safety and PayZapp benefits

Fuel surcharge waiver Up to ₹250 per month
Interest-free period Up to 50 days from the date of purchase
PayZapp offer ₹1,000 CashBack on in-app shopping across 200+ brands
Fraud protection EMV chip card, cover on fraudulent transactions reported immediately to the 24-hour call centre

HDFC claims savings of up to ₹1,800 a year on fuel at ₹6,000 of monthly fuel spend. A fuel surcharge is usually about 1%, which would be around ₹720 a year on that spend, so treat the ₹1,800 figure as the best case. The waiver is useful, but it is a small, steady saving.

Fees & Charges

Joining fee Not published on the product page
Annual (renewal) fee Amount not published on the product page
Renewal waiver Spends of ₹50,000 or more in a year
Interest on unpaid balance 3.49% per month (41.88% a year)
Cash advance fee 2.5% of the amount, minimum ₹500
Interest-free period Up to 50 days from the date of purchase
Fuel surcharge waiver Up to ₹250 per month

To get the renewal fee waived you need about ₹4,200 of spends a month, which is an easy bar to clear with regular bills and groceries.

Your statement and HDFC’s schedule of charges show the exact renewal amount for your card.

The charge that catches people out is the interest rate. At 3.49% a month, a ₹10,000 balance costs about ₹349 for a month, which is more than the rewards on ₹1 lakh of spends are likely to return.

Eligibility & Documents Required

HDFC does not publish income or age criteria on the Platinum Edge page, and it is not accepting new applications.

Existing holders do not need to reapply. For any current HDFC card, expect to provide identity proof, address proof and income proof such as salary slips or an ITR.

Platinum Edge vs Competitors

Platinum Edge is part of HDFC’s older entry-level range and is now closed. Current entry-level cards from HDFC and other banks usually offer flat cashback or a higher base earn at a similar waiver threshold.

If you hold a better cashback card, move your main spends there and keep the Platinum Edge only while it costs you nothing.

How to Apply

You cannot. HDFC Bank states it is not accepting new applications for the Platinum Edge.

Existing customers can manage the card through NetBanking, the MobileBanking app, MyCards, PayZapp or WhatsApp Banking. For a new HDFC card, browse the bank’s current range on its official site.

Bottom Line

Keep the Platinum Edge if you already hold it, spend at least ₹50,000 a year and mainly want the fuel surcharge waiver at no cost.

Skip it as a main card: it earns only 1 point per ₹100, it is closed to new applicants, and the 3.49% monthly interest punishes any balance you carry. Anyone who spends heavily, wants lounge access or wants real rewards should look at a different card.
