The Diners Club Rewardz was HDFC’s entry point into the Diners Club network, a ₹1,180 card built to be paid off with a modest ₹1 lakh of annual spending. Two things have happened to it since.

HDFC stopped issuing it, so its product page now carries the line “Sourcing of this Credit Card has been stopped”, and on 15 May 2026 the bank moved Reward Point accrual from every ₹150 spent to every ₹200 spent.

If you still hold one, the question is whether a card returning 0.45% is worth keeping open. Here is the honest arithmetic.

Rewards & Benefits

Reward rate and earn structure

Spend category Earn rate Cap
Everyday spends 3 Reward Points per ₹200, from 15 May 2026 15,000 Reward Points per statement cycle
Grocery Standard rate 2,000 Reward Points per calendar month
Utility and telecom Standard rate 2,000 Reward Points per calendar month, each
Insurance premiums Standard rate 2,000 Reward Points per day
Rent and government payments Nil These spends earn no Reward Points
EasyEMI, wallet loading, education through third party apps Nil These spends earn no Reward Points

The May 2026 change hit this card the same way it hit the rest of the Diners range. HDFC kept the 3 Reward Points and stretched the denominator from ₹150 to ₹200, which is a quarter less earning on an identical bill.

Points accrue only on full multiples of ₹200, so a ₹590 spend earns on ₹400 and the last ₹190 earns nothing. The 15,000 point ceiling per statement cycle is the other constraint, and it is a third of what the Diners Club Premium allows.

You reach it at ₹10 lakh of spending in a single cycle, so most holders will never touch it, but anyone routing business bills through this card should know it is there.

Redemption and what a point is worth

Redeemed as Value of 1 Reward Point
SmartBuy flight and hotel bookings ₹0.30
AirMiles conversion 0.30 airmile
Products catalogue and vouchers Up to ₹0.25
Statement cashback Up to ₹0.15

This is where the card gets thin. 3 points per ₹200 is 1.5 points per ₹100, and at ₹0.30 a point on SmartBuy flights and hotels that is 45 paise back on every ₹100, a 0.45% return.

Take the same points as statement cashback at ₹0.15 and you are down to 0.225%, which is close to nothing.

Points can cover at most 70% of a flight or hotel booking, so the rest is always paid in cash. HDFC names Jet Airways and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer as the airmile partners at 1 Reward Point to 0.30 airmile. Redemption runs through SmartBuy or NetBanking.

Welcome benefit, lounge access and SmartBuy

Card activation earns 1,000 Reward Points, and HDFC repeats the same 1,000 points at every renewal, which is worth ₹300 on SmartBuy against a ₹1,180 fee. HDFC also markets up to 5% cashback on spends made through SmartBuy, its own booking and shopping portal, and that channel is where the card earns anything close to a respectable rate.

On lounge access, HDFC’s own FAQ for this card says it provides unlimited domestic airport lounge access for both primary and add-on members, with an asterisk pointing to conditions the page does not spell out.

There is no published visit count, and a Diners lounge visit beyond any complimentary limit is billed at the prevailing lounge rate, so confirm your entitlement with the bank before relying on it. A 24×7 global concierge is available on 1800 209 4006.

Fees & Charges

Joining fee ₹1,000 + GST (₹1,180)
Renewal fee ₹1,000 + GST (₹1,180)
Renewal fee waiver Annual spends of ₹1 lakh
Add-on card Lifetime free
Finance charges 3.75% per month, 45% per annum
Cash advance fee 2.5% of the amount, minimum ₹500
Late payment ₹100 on a balance of ₹101 to ₹500, rising to ₹1,300 above ₹50,000
Fuel surcharge waiver 1% of the fuel spend, capped at ₹499 per billing cycle
Fuel transaction fee 1% on any single fuel spend above ₹15,000, capped at ₹3,000
Utility transaction fee 1% on any single utility spend above ₹50,000, capped at ₹3,000
Dynamic currency conversion 1.75% from 15 May 2026
Card replacement ₹199 from 15 May 2026

₹1 lakh a year is about ₹8,400 a month, which is the easiest waiver threshold on any HDFC Diners card and the strongest thing this product has going for it. Clear it and the ₹1,180 renewal disappears, and the 1,500 Reward Points that ₹1 lakh generates are worth ₹450 on SmartBuy.

Miss it and you pay ₹1,180 to earn ₹450 or less, which is a straight loss. Rent and government payments earn no points and will not help you get there, so plan the threshold around real retail spending.

One figure needs checking before you use the card abroad. HDFC’s product page still advertises a 3% foreign currency markup, while the current Most Important Terms and Conditions puts this variant at 3.5% after the August 2024 revision.

The two sources disagree, so confirm the rate on your statement or with the bank rather than assuming the lower one. Either way, at 3% or more this is not a card to spend on outside India.

Eligibility & Documents Required

HDFC no longer accepts applications for this card, and its FAQ says so directly.

For existing holders, the credit limit is assigned at the bank’s discretion on income, credit history and internal eligibility criteria, and it is reviewed from time to time. Add-on cards are free for life, so family members can be added without a further fee.

HDFC can withdraw benefits attached to a card that stays inactive for more than 90 days, which matters if you are thinking of keeping this one open purely for your credit history.

Pros & Cons

Pros Cons
₹1 lakh waiver, the lowest threshold across HDFC’s Diners cards 0.45% return on SmartBuy travel, and 0.225% if taken as cashback
1,000 Reward Points on activation and again at every renewal 15,000 point cap per statement cycle, a third of the Premium’s
Add-on cards are lifetime free Foreign currency markup of 3% or more, so it is unusable abroad
Fuel surcharge waiver up to ₹499 a billing cycle Closed to new applicants, so no upgrade path within the product

Diners Club Rewardz vs Competitors

Card Annual fee Base earn Point value on SmartBuy
Diners Club Rewardz ₹1,000 + GST 3 points per ₹200 ₹0.30
Diners Club Miles ₹1,000 + GST 4 points per ₹200 ₹0.50
Diners Club Premium ₹2,500 + GST 4 points per ₹200 ₹0.50

Against its own family the Rewardz loses on both sides of the equation. The Diners Club Miles charges the identical ₹1,180 with the identical ₹1 lakh waiver, earns a third more points, and each of those points is worth 67% more when redeemed. That is a 1% return against 0.45% for the same money.

The only line where the Rewardz wins is the fuel surcharge waiver, which the Diners Privilege does not offer at all. If you want a Diners card HDFC is still issuing, look at the HDFC Diners Club Black, whose accrual the bank left untouched in May 2026.

How to Apply

You cannot. HDFC has closed this card to new applicants and directs people to its current range instead.

If you already hold one, you keep the card and its benefits, and you can manage limits, international usage, card controls and redemptions through NetBanking, the MobileBanking app, MyCards or PayZapp. Reward Points are redeemed on SmartBuy or through NetBanking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still apply for the HDFC Diners Club Rewardz Credit Card?
No. HDFC’s product page states that sourcing of this card has been stopped, and its FAQ confirms the bank is not accepting new applications. Existing customers keep the card and its benefits.

Is the Diners Club Rewardz annual fee waived?
Yes, on annual spends of ₹1 lakh. Below that you pay ₹1,000 plus 18% GST, which is ₹1,180, and rent and government payments do not count towards the threshold.

Does the Diners Club Rewardz Card have lounge access?
HDFC’s own FAQ says the card gives unlimited domestic airport lounge access for primary and add-on members, subject to conditions it does not publish. No visit count is stated, and visits beyond any complimentary limit are charged at the prevailing lounge rate.

What is one Reward Point worth?
₹0.30 on SmartBuy flight and hotel bookings, 0.30 airmile on conversion, up to ₹0.25 on products and vouchers and up to ₹0.15 as statement cashback. Points can cover at most 70% of a travel booking.

How many Reward Points can I earn in a month?
Earning stops at 15,000 Reward Points per statement cycle. Grocery, utility and telecom are separately capped at 2,000 points a calendar month each, and insurance premiums at 2,000 points a day.

What changed on 15 May 2026?
Reward Point accrual moved from every ₹150 spent to every ₹200 spent, so the card now earns 3 points per ₹200. HDFC also set the dynamic currency conversion markup at 1.75% and card replacement at ₹199 from that date.

Bottom Line

Keep this card only if you clear ₹1 lakh a year on it without trying, so the fee is waived, and you actually redeem the points against SmartBuy flights and hotels where they are worth ₹0.30 each.

On that pattern the card costs nothing and hands back about ₹450 a year plus the 1,000 renewal points, and the free add-on cards and the ₹499 fuel surcharge waiver are quiet extras.

Close it or stop using it if you spend under ₹1 lakh a year, because ₹1,180 to earn ₹450 is a losing trade. Do not carry it abroad at a markup of 3% or more, and do not keep it for the rewards alone when the Diners Club Miles charges the same ₹1,180 for double the effective return.

A 0.45% card is not a card you build a wallet around: it is one you keep because the fee is waived and the credit line is old. If you want real earning at this price point, the SBI Card Miles is a better use of the same ₹1,180.
