| Joining Fee | ₹4,999 + GST (₹5,899 all-in) |
| Annual Fee | ₹4,999 + GST, reversed on ₹10 lakh annual spend |

| Reward Type | Reward Points, redeemable against your card bill at 4 points = ₹1 |
The SBI Card ELITE is SBI’s long-running lifestyle flagship, and it is best understood as a benefits card rather than a rewards card. The base earn rate of 2 Reward Points per ₹100 works out to 0.5%, which is poor for a ₹4,999 card. What justifies the fee is everything bolted on around it: a ₹5,000 welcome voucher, ₹6,000 of movie tickets a year, up to 50,000 bonus points at spending milestones, a 1.99% forex markup, and six international lounge visits. Whether it pays depends almost entirely on how much you spend.
Rewards & Benefits
Reward rate and earn structure
| Spend category | Earn rate | Value back |
|---|---|---|
| Dining, departmental stores, grocery | 10 Reward Points per ₹100 | 2.5% |
| All other retail spends | 2 Reward Points per ₹100 | 0.5% |
| Fuel | Nil | Nil |
SBI markets the accelerated rate as “5X”, which is the marketing way of saying 10 points instead of 2. The categories are set by merchant category code: departmental stores (5311), grocery and supermarkets (5411), and restaurants, bars and fast food (5812, 5813, 5814). A restaurant inside a hotel usually codes as a hotel, so it will earn the base rate.
The cap you need to know. Accelerated earning is limited to 10,000 Reward Points per calendar month, which you hit at ₹1 lakh of dining, grocery and departmental store spend in a month. Beyond that, those same categories drop to 2 points per ₹100 for the rest of the month. Fuel earns nothing at all, at any level.
Redemption and point value
Reward Points are redeemed against your outstanding card bill at 4 Reward Points = ₹1, which fixes the value of a point at 25 paise. That makes the arithmetic refreshingly simple, and it also caps your upside: there is no transfer partner on this card that lets you push a point above 25 paise. Points expire 24 months from the date they are earned, and a ₹99 redemption fee applies to physical products, statement credit and physically delivered vouchers.
Welcome, movie and milestone benefits
The welcome benefit is an e-gift voucher worth ₹5,000, redeemable at Yatra, Hush Puppies or Bata, Pantaloons, Aditya Birla Fashion or Shoppers Stop. It covers most of the ₹5,899 all-in joining fee in year one, provided you actually shop at one of those five brands.
The movie benefit is worth up to ₹6,000 a year: ₹500 off, or the cost of two tickets if that is less, on a maximum of two tickets a month, booked on BookMyShow and on primary cards only. You have to use it every single month to reach ₹6,000, and the convenience fee is still yours to pay.
| Annual spend | Bonus Reward Points | Value |
|---|---|---|
| ₹3 lakh | 10,000 | ₹2,500 |
| ₹4 lakh | 10,000 | ₹2,500 |
| ₹5 lakh | 15,000 | ₹3,750 |
| ₹8 lakh | 15,000 | ₹3,750 |
| ₹10 lakh | Annual fee reversed | ₹5,899 |
At ₹8 lakh a year, split ₹2 lakh accelerated and ₹6 lakh other, you earn 20,000 + 12,000 + 50,000 milestone points, or 82,000 points worth ₹20,500. Less the ₹5,899 fee, that is ₹14,601 net, an effective 1.83% before the movie and welcome benefits.
At ₹3 lakh a year, split ₹75,000 accelerated and ₹2.25 lakh other, you earn 7,500 + 4,500 + 10,000 milestone points, or 22,000 points worth ₹5,500. That is ₹399 short of the fee. Below ₹3 lakh of annual spending, this card costs you money on rewards alone.
Lounge access, forex and lifestyle privileges
| Benefit | Detail |
|---|---|
| Domestic lounge access | 2 complimentary visits per quarter, 8 a year |
| International lounge access | 6 complimentary visits per calendar year, maximum 2 per quarter |
| Priority Pass | Membership worth USD 99, complimentary for 2 years; USD 27 plus taxes per visit thereafter |
| Foreign currency markup | 1.99%, plus 2 Reward Points per ₹100 on international spends |
| Club ITC | Complimentary 1-year Silver Tier membership after your first transaction within 60 days |
| Concierge | Flower and gift delivery, online doctor consultation |
| Fraud liability cover | ₹1 lakh, from 48 hours before you report the loss to 7 days after |
The 1.99% forex markup is the quietest and most valuable feature here. It is among the lowest on any Indian credit card, and unlike the reward rate it has no cap, no category exclusion and no milestone attached. On ₹5 lakh of overseas spending a year it saves about ₹7,550 against a standard 3.5% card, which is more than the annual fee.
Fees & Charges
| Charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | ₹4,999 + GST (₹5,899 all-in) |
| Renewal fee, per annum | ₹4,999 + GST, reversed on ₹10 lakh annual spend |
| Add-on card fee | Nil |
| Foreign currency markup | 1.99% |
| Dynamic currency conversion | 1.99% on transactions of ₹1,000 and above |
| Finance charges | Up to 3.75% per month, 45% per annum |
| Cash advance fee | 2.5% of the amount or ₹500, whichever is higher |
| Late payment charge | Nil up to ₹100 outstanding, rising in slabs to ₹1,300 above ₹50,000 |
| Overlimit fee | 2.5% of the overlimit amount or ₹600, whichever is higher |
| Payment dishonour fee | 2% of the payment amount, minimum ₹500 |
| Rent payment processing fee | ₹199 per transaction |
| Utility payment fee | 1% if utility spends cross ₹50,000 in a billing cycle |
| Wallet load fee | 1% on every wallet load above ₹1,000 |
| Fuel surcharge waiver | 1% on transactions of ₹500 to ₹4,000, capped at ₹250 per statement cycle |
Hitting the ₹10 lakh waiver. The reversal is assessed on net retail spend, meaning retail spends minus reversals, over the 365 days immediately before your fee billing date. Cash advances do not count. At ₹83,333 a month this is realistic only for a household running most of its outgoings through one card, and note that the ₹8 lakh milestone is the last bonus you get. The two lakh between ₹8 lakh and ₹10 lakh earns points but no extra milestone.
The charge that catches people out. The 1% utility payment fee kicks in on the whole month’s utility total once it crosses ₹50,000, not just the excess. A single ₹52,000 month costs ₹520 in fees on spending that earns only 2 points per ₹100. Rent, at ₹199 per transaction, and wallet loads above ₹1,000, at 1%, work the same way. Keep those payments off this card.
Eligibility & Documents Required
SBI Card does not publish a minimum income for the ELITE. In practice, approvals track the profile you would expect for a card in the ₹5,000 fee bracket, and a secured variant, the SBI Card ELITE Advantage, exists for applicants who cannot meet the unsecured criteria.
| Criterion | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Age | 18 years and above |
| Nationality | Indian resident |
| Income | Not publicly disclosed by SBI Card |
| Credit score | No published minimum; a healthy score improves your odds |
Documents: PAN, identity proof such as Aadhaar or passport, address proof, and income proof in the form of salary slips, Form 16, or audited returns if you are self-employed. Approval is at SBI Card’s discretion, and no issuer guarantees it.
Pros & Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| 1.99% forex markup, among the lowest in India, uncapped | 0.5% base reward rate is very weak for a ₹4,999 card |
| Up to 50,000 bonus points a year across four milestones | Accelerated earning capped at 10,000 points a calendar month |
| ₹5,000 welcome voucher nearly covers the first year’s fee | A point is fixed at 25 paise, with no transfer partners |
| ₹6,000 of movie tickets a year on BookMyShow | Movie benefit needs monthly use, on primary cards only |
| 8 domestic and 6 international lounge visits a year | ₹10 lakh fee waiver is out of reach for most cardholders |
| Club ITC Silver membership and a working concierge line | Fuel earns no points, and rent and utilities carry extra fees |
SBI Card ELITE vs Competitors
| SBI Card ELITE | SBI Card PRIME | SBI Card Miles PRIME | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annual fee | ₹4,999 + GST | ₹2,999 + GST | ₹2,999 + GST |
| Fee waiver | ₹10 lakh spend | ₹3 lakh spend | ₹10 lakh spend |
| Accelerated earn | 10 points / ₹100 on dining, grocery, departmental stores | 10 points / ₹100 on dining, grocery, departmental stores, movies | 4 credits / ₹200 on travel |
| Base earn | 2 points / ₹100 | 2 points / ₹100 | 2 credits / ₹200 |
| Forex markup | 1.99% | 3.5% | 2.5% |
| Welcome benefit | ₹5,000 voucher | ₹3,000 voucher | 3,000 credits on ₹60,000 / 60 days |
| Top milestone | Up to 50,000 points a year | ₹7,000 voucher at ₹5 lakh | 10,000 credits at ₹8 lakh |
| International lounge | 6 visits a year | 4 visits a year | 4 visits a year |
The uncomfortable comparison is with SBI Card PRIME, which costs ₹2,000 less, pays the same accelerated rate, adds movies to the accelerated list, and waives its fee at ₹3 lakh instead of ₹10 lakh. Unless you are spending abroad or clearing ₹5 lakh a year, PRIME is the better card. ELITE earns its extra ₹2,000 on exactly three things: the 1.99% forex markup, the two extra international lounge visits, and the milestone ladder that keeps paying up to ₹8 lakh.

Bottom Line
The SBI Card ELITE is a benefits card wearing a rewards card’s badge. Judge it on the ₹5,000 voucher, the ₹6,000 of movie tickets, the milestone ladder and above all the 1.99% forex markup, and it holds up well at ₹5 lakh or more of annual spending, where the effective return lands near 1.8%. Judge it on the base rate of 0.5% and it looks dated next to newer cards.
Skip this card if you spend under about ₹4 lakh a year, if you never travel abroad, or if you do not book films on BookMyShow. Without those three, the milestones stay out of reach and the perks go unused, and you are paying ₹5,899 for a 0.5% card. In that situation, SBI Card PRIME at ₹2,999 with a ₹3 lakh fee waiver is the sensible alternative from the same issuer.
