SBI Card PRIME is a mid-premium lifestyle card that pays 10 Reward Points per ₹100 on four everyday categories (dining, groceries, departmental stores and movies), which works out to 2.5% value back. Everything else earns 0.5%. The single biggest reason to hold it is not the reward rate at all: it is the milestone voucher stack, which returns up to ₹11,000 a year in vouchers if you spend ₹5,00,000 on the card. Below that spend level, the ₹2,999 fee is hard to justify.
Fees and features below are as of 13 August 2026. SBI Card revises terms frequently, so confirm on sbicard.com before you apply.
Rewards & Benefits
Reward rate & earn structure
| Spend category | Earn rate | Value back |
|---|---|---|
| Dining, groceries, departmental stores, movies | 10 RP per ₹100 | 2.5% |
| All other retail spends (except fuel) | 2 RP per ₹100 | 0.5% |
| Birthday spends (day before, day of, day after) | 20 RP per ₹100, capped at 2,000 RP per calendar year | 5% up to ₹10,000 spend |
Accelerated earning on the four bonus categories is capped at 7,500 Reward Points per calendar month. That is roughly ₹75,000 of bonus-category spend a month. Past that, those spends drop to the 2 RP base rate.
The categories are decided by Merchant Category Code (MCC), not by the shop’s name. A standalone kirana that is tagged as a general merchant will not earn 10X; a large-format store tagged 5411 will. If a specific merchant matters to you, test it with a small transaction first.
What earns nothing: fuel, rent, wallet loads and government transactions carry no Reward Points. Since November 2025, SBI Card also levies a 1% processing fee on wallet loads, education payments through third-party apps, and rent payments at certain MCCs. Treat this card as an in-store and online shopping card, not a bill-routing card.
Redemption options & point value
One Reward Point is worth ₹0.25, four points to the rupee. You can redeem for:
- Statement credit (pay off your outstanding). Since 1 April 2026 this must be done in blocks of 4,000 points, with a ceiling of 60,000 points per card per calendar month.
- Gift vouchers and products from the SBI Card rewards catalogue, on the website or the mobile app.
A redemption fee of ₹99 + GST applies each time you redeem. If you are redeeming for statement credit, batching redemptions rather than doing them monthly saves you that ₹99 repeatedly. There is no airline or hotel transfer partner, so ₹0.25 is effectively your ceiling. This is not a card where clever redemption improves your rate.
Welcome benefit
An e-gift voucher worth ₹3,000, chosen from Yatra, Pantaloons, Shoppers Stop, Bata/Hush Puppies, or Aditya Birla Fashion. You get an SMS to pick your brand within 21 days of the joining fee hitting your statement, and the voucher lands within 5 days of your choice. The Aditya Birla voucher is redeemable at Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Peter England, Planet Fashion and Simon Carter.
This covers 85% of the first-year fee, so year one is close to break-even before you earn a single point.
Milestone benefits
| Milestone | Reward |
|---|---|
| ₹50,000 spend in a calendar quarter | Pizza Hut e-voucher worth ₹1,000 (credited within 30 days) |
| ₹3,00,000 spend in a card year | Renewal fee waived |
| ₹5,00,000 spend in a card year | Yatra.com or Pantaloons e-voucher worth ₹7,000 |
Hit all four quarterly milestones plus the annual one and you collect ₹11,000 in vouchers. That is the card’s real engine. Note the quarterly milestone is on a calendar quarter, while the fee waiver runs on your card membership year; the two clocks are not the same, and people miss the quarterly voucher in their first partial quarter because of it.
Dining benefits
There is no separate dining programme on the core card beyond the 10 RP per ₹100 earn rate. The American Express variant historically carried access to the Amex dining platform with discounts at partner restaurants. If dining discounts are what you want, this card gives you rewards, not offers.
Travel benefits
Cardholders issued a PRIME on or after 1 September 2025 get a complimentary Club ITC Silver membership, which brings tier discounts on stays and dining across ITC Hotels, stackable with paying by the card.
This replaced what used to be the card’s headline travel perks. Club Vistara Silver membership and Trident Privilege Red Tier membership have both been discontinued. Club Vistara went away with the Vistara–Air India merger. If you are reading an older review that lists 9 CV points per ₹100 on Vistara flights, that benefit no longer exists.
The Mastercard variant carries golf privileges: 4 complimentary rounds on green fees, up to 50% off golf games, and 1 complimentary lesson a month at select courses.
The RuPay variant can be linked to UPI apps, and UPI spends earn at the base rate. It also carries standard RuPay SELECT privileges.
Airport lounge access
| Visits | Cap | |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic (India) | 8 per calendar year | Max 2 per quarter |
| International (outside India, via Priority Pass) | 4 per calendar year | Max 2 per quarter |
You also get a complimentary Priority Pass membership worth $99. Once your 4 free international visits are used, further Priority Pass entries cost roughly $27 per visit, billed to you.
From 10 January 2026 SBI Card split its domestic lounge network into two sets. PRIME sits in Set B, the narrower list; Set A is reserved for higher-tier and select co-branded cards. Around 30 lounges participate in the programme, so check that your home airport’s lounge is on the Set B list before you count these 8 visits as real value.
Unlike HDFC’s Regalia Gold, PRIME’s domestic lounge visits are not gated behind a previous-quarter spend requirement as of today. That is currently one of the card’s quieter advantages.
Insurance & protection covers
- Fraud liability cover: ₹1,00,000, applicable from 48 hours before you report the card lost to 7 days after.
That is the whole list. SBI Card discontinued complimentary air and rail accident insurance across its portfolio in August 2025. The ₹50 lakh air accident cover that older articles mention is gone.
Fees & Charges
| Charge | Amount |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | ₹2,999 + GST |
| Annual (renewal) fee | ₹2,999 + GST |
| Renewal fee waiver | Spend ₹3,00,000 in the preceding card year |
| Foreign currency markup | 3.5% + GST |
| Finance charge | 3.75% per month (45% per annum) |
| Cash advance fee | 2.5% of amount withdrawn, minimum ₹500 |
| Reward redemption fee | ₹99 + GST |
| Fuel surcharge waiver | 1% on transactions of ₹500–₹4,000, max ₹250 per statement cycle |
All fees are exclusive of GST; 18% GST applies on top. At ₹2,999 + 18%, the real first-year outgo is ₹3,538.82.
Joining & annual fee, and how to get it waived
The joining fee cannot be waived; you pay ₹2,999 + GST in year one regardless, and the ₹3,000 welcome voucher is designed to offset it. From year two, spend ₹3,00,000 (₹25,000 a month) in the preceding membership year and the renewal fee is reversed. Reversal is usually posted in the statement after the fee is charged, not before, so do not panic when you see the ₹2,999 debit.
Forex markup
3.5% + GST is high. Effectively you pay about 4.13% on every foreign-currency transaction once GST is added. On a ₹1,00,000 overseas trip that is ₹4,130 of pure cost, against roughly ₹250 of Reward Points earned. Do not use PRIME abroad. Even SBI’s own ELITE charges 1.99%.
Interest rate & finance charges
3.75% per month, which annualises to 45%. Interest starts from the transaction date once you carry any balance, and the interest-free period disappears entirely until you clear the full outstanding. This is a rewards card, not a borrowing card.
Fuel surcharge waiver
1% waived on fuel transactions between ₹500 and ₹4,000, capped at ₹250 per statement cycle, so about ₹25,000 of monthly fuel spend is protected. Fuel transactions themselves earn zero Reward Points.
Cash advance & other charges
Cash withdrawal costs 2.5% of the amount or ₹500, whichever is higher, and interest at 3.75% per month starts from the withdrawal date with no grace period. A ₹10,000 ATM withdrawal repaid a month later costs roughly ₹875.
Eligibility & Documents Required
- Age: 21 to 70 years for the primary cardholder; add-on cardholders must be 18 or above
- Residency: Resident Indians and NRIs
- Credit score: 750 or above is the practical bar for approval
- Income: SBI Card does not publish a specific income figure for PRIME. In practice it is positioned above SimplySAVE and below ELITE, and applicants are typically assessed on stable documented income
- Add-on cards: up to 2
Documents: PAN card (or Form 60); identity proof (Aadhaar, passport, driving licence); address proof (Aadhaar, passport, utility bill, ration card); income proof (latest salary slips, Form 16, or ITR); passport-size photograph.
Meeting these criteria does not guarantee approval; the issuer’s internal scoring decides.
Pros & Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| 2.5% back on dining, groceries, departmental stores and movies, a genuinely useful set of everyday categories | 0.5% base rate is poor; most spends outside four categories barely earn |
| Up to ₹11,000 in milestone vouchers a year at ₹5,00,000 spend | The ₹5,00,000 annual milestone is out of reach for most cardholders |
| 8 domestic lounge visits with no previous-quarter spend condition | Domestic lounges restricted to the narrower Set B network since January 2026 |
| ₹3,000 welcome voucher covers most of the first-year fee | 3.5% forex markup makes the card unusable overseas |
| Fee waiver at a realistic ₹3,00,000 annual spend | Club Vistara and Trident Privilege perks discontinued; travel value now thin |
| Priority Pass membership worth $99 included | Points are locked at ₹0.25 with no transfer partners, plus a ₹99 redemption fee |
SBI Card PRIME vs Competitors
| SBI Card PRIME | SBI Card ELITE | HDFC Regalia Gold | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Joining / annual fee | ₹2,999 + GST | ₹4,999 + GST | ₹2,500 + GST |
| Fee waiver spend | ₹3,00,000 | ₹10,00,000 | ₹4,00,000 |
| Base earn rate | 2 RP per ₹100 (0.5%) | 2 RP per ₹100 (0.5%) | 5 RP per ₹200 (from 15 May 2026) |
| Accelerated earn | 10 RP per ₹100 on dining, groceries, dept. stores, movies | 5X on dining, groceries, dept. stores | 5X on Myntra, Nykaa, Marks & Spencer, Reliance Digital |
| Point value | ₹0.25 | ₹0.25 | Up to ₹0.65 (Gold catalogue) |
| Domestic lounge | 8 per year, no spend condition | 8 per year (2 per quarter) | 3 per quarter, only on ₹60,000 previous-quarter spend (from July 2026) |
| International lounge | 4 per year (Priority Pass) | 6 per year (Priority Pass) | 6 per year (Priority Pass) |
| Forex markup | 3.5% | 1.99% | 2% |
| Standout extra | ₹11,000 milestone vouchers | Movie tickets worth ₹6,000 a year | SmartBuy multipliers, Boarding Edge |
How to read this table. If you travel abroad even occasionally, ELITE’s 1.99% forex markup pays back its extra ₹2,000 of fee within about ₹1,30,000 of overseas spend. If you want the best rupee-for-rupee redemption value, Regalia Gold’s ₹0.65 point beats PRIME’s ₹0.25 by a wide margin, but its domestic lounge access is now spend-gated, and PRIME’s is not. PRIME wins narrowly for one profile: someone whose spending clusters in supermarkets and restaurants, who flies domestic a few times a year, and who never uses the card overseas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the SBI Card PRIME annual fee waived? The ₹2,999 + GST renewal fee is waived if you spend ₹3,00,000 or more in the preceding card membership year. The joining fee in year one cannot be waived, though the ₹3,000 welcome voucher offsets most of it.
How many lounge visits does SBI Card PRIME give? 8 complimentary domestic visits per calendar year (maximum 2 per quarter) and 4 complimentary international visits per calendar year via Priority Pass (maximum 2 per quarter). Since 10 January 2026 the domestic visits are valid only at Set B lounges.
What is the reward rate on SBI Card PRIME? 10 Reward Points per ₹100 on dining, groceries, departmental stores and movies, and 2 Reward Points per ₹100 on other retail spends except fuel. At ₹0.25 per point that is 2.5% and 0.5% respectively.
What is 1 SBI Card PRIME Reward Point worth? ₹0.25. Four Reward Points equal ₹1. Since 1 April 2026, redeeming points as statement credit must be done in multiples of 4,000 points, up to 60,000 points per month.
Does SBI Card PRIME still offer Club Vistara membership? No. Club Vistara Silver and Trident Privilege Red Tier memberships have both been discontinued. Cards issued on or after 1 September 2025 get a complimentary Club ITC Silver membership instead.
What is the forex markup on SBI Card PRIME? 3.5% plus GST, roughly 4.13% all-in. It is one of the highest markups in this fee band, so use a different card for foreign spends.
Can I use SBI Card PRIME for rent and utility payments? You can pay, but rent, wallet loads, fuel and government transactions earn no Reward Points, and since November 2025 a 1% processing fee applies to wallet loads, third-party education payments and rent at certain merchant codes.
What is the minimum credit score for SBI Card PRIME? A CIBIL score of 750 or above is the practical threshold. A lower score does not automatically disqualify you, but it materially raises the chance of rejection.
How do I redeem SBI Card PRIME reward points? Log in at sbicard.com or the SBI Card app, go to Rewards, and choose statement credit or a catalogue voucher. A ₹99 + GST redemption fee applies per redemption.
Does SBI Card PRIME come with accident insurance? No. SBI Card discontinued complimentary air and rail accident cover across its portfolio in August 2025. The only cover remaining is a ₹1,00,000 fraud liability protection.
Bottom Line
Do the arithmetic before you apply, because this card’s value swings sharply with your spend level.
At ₹3,00,000 a year (₹25,000 a month, of which say ₹10,000 goes to the bonus categories), you earn roughly 12,000 RP on accelerated spends and 3,600 RP on the rest (about ₹3,900), plus ₹4,000 in quarterly Pizza Hut vouchers. Total return around ₹7,900 with the fee waived. That is a solid 2.6%.
At ₹5,00,000 a year, you add the ₹7,000 annual voucher and the return climbs to roughly ₹17,100, or about 3.4%. This is where PRIME is genuinely strong.
At ₹1,50,000 a year, you pay ₹3,539 including GST, miss the fee waiver, miss most quarterly milestones, and earn perhaps ₹2,000 in points. You lose money.
Get this card if your household spends heavily at supermarkets, departmental stores and restaurants, you can clear ₹50,000 in a calendar quarter without effort, you take a handful of domestic flights a year, and you always pay your statement in full.
Skip this card if you spend under ₹25,000 a month, travel internationally at all, want the flexibility of transferring points to airlines, or route most of your spending through rent, fuel, utilities or wallets. In every one of those cases the ₹2,999 fee buys you less than a lifetime-free cashback card would give you for nothing.
Card Jaano does not guarantee approval for any credit card. Interest of 3.75% per month annualises to 45% per annum. Fees, features and offers change frequently; verify current terms on the issuer’s website before applying.
