The PSB SBI Card PRIME is the Punjab & Sind Bank version of SBI Card’s long-running PRIME card. The card, the rewards engine and the customer service all come from SBI Card; Punjab & Sind Bank is the distribution partner whose branches source the applications. So the fees, the reward table and the redemption rules are the standard PRIME ones, and any change SBI Card makes to PRIME applies here too.

The single biggest hook is utility bills: 20 reward points per ₹100 paid through SBI Card standing instructions, which works out to 5% back, but only on the first ₹15,000 of utility spend each month. Everything else on this card is either average or below average, so whether it is worth ₹3,539 a year comes down almost entirely to whether you can hit ₹5 lakh of annual spending and route your electricity, gas, mobile and broadband bills through it.

Rewards & Benefits

Reward rate & earn structure

Spend categoryReward pointsCapEffective value back
Utility bills via SBI Card standing instructions20 RP per ₹1003,000 RP/month (₹15,000 spend)5%
Birthday spends (day before, on, day after)20 RP per ₹1002,000 RP/year (₹10,000 spend)5%
Dining, groceries, departmental stores, movies10 RP per ₹100No published monthly cap2.5%
All other retail spends2 RP per ₹100No cap0.5%
Rent, fuel, wallet loads, government payments, online gamingNilNot applicable0%

A “standing instruction” here means the bill is registered inside the SBI Card app or website and auto-debited from the card. If you pay the same electricity bill through Paytm, CRED or the discom’s own site, you drop from 20 points per ₹100 to 2, and a 5% benefit becomes 0.5%. This trips up more PRIME cardholders than any other rule on the card.

The exclusion list has grown steadily. Rent, wallet top-ups, government payments and, since 2025, online gaming earn nothing at all. Fuel earns nothing either, though it does get a surcharge waiver (below).

Redemption options & point value

Four reward points equal ₹1, so a point is worth 25 paise. The cleanest redemption is statement credit, which knocks the value straight off your bill. You can also pick vouchers or catalogue products, and points can be redeemed at Landmark group stores (Lifestyle, Home Centre, Max and Spar) at the same 4:1 rate.

Three rules to plan around:

  • Every redemption request costs ₹99 + GST, so redeem in large batches, not ₹500 at a time.
  • Points expire 24 months after they are earned.
  • Since April 2026, statement-credit redemption is capped at 60,000 reward points (₹15,000) per calendar month.

Points on this card cannot be pooled with any other SBI Card you hold, and there are no airline or hotel transfer partners.

Welcome benefit

An e-gift voucher worth ₹3,000, chosen from Bata/Hush Puppies, Pantaloons, Aditya Birla Fashion, Shoppers Stop or Yatra.com. It is dispatched within about five working days of your request. That voucher covers the ₹2,999 base fee, leaving roughly ₹540 of GST as your real first-year cost, provided you actually shop at one of those five brands.

Milestone benefits

MilestoneSpend requiredReward
Quarterly₹50,000 in a calendar quarterPizza Hut e-voucher worth ₹1,000
Annual₹5,00,000 in a card yearYatra.com or Pantaloons e-voucher worth ₹7,000
Fee reversal₹3,00,000 in a card yearRenewal fee of ₹2,999 reversed

Hit all four quarterly targets and the annual one and you collect ₹11,000 in vouchers, an extra 2.2% on ₹5 lakh of spending, on top of your reward points. That is the whole investment case for this card. Vouchers are typically issued within 21 working days of the qualifying period ending.

Note that ₹4,000 of that ₹11,000 is Pizza Hut credit. Value it at what it is worth to you, not at face value.

Dining benefits

There is no separate dining programme. Restaurant spends fall into the 10 points per ₹100 bucket at 2.5% back. If your card is issued on the Visa network you get Visa’s standard dining and hotel offers, which change from time to time and are not guaranteed.

Travel benefits

Beyond lounge access, the travel perks are thin and network-dependent. On Visa variants you get up to 10% off Hertz and up to 35% off Avis car rentals, up to 15% off at IHG hotels and resorts, and access to Visa’s luxury hotel collection. The Club Vistara Silver and Trident Privilege Red Tier memberships that PRIME cards once carried have been withdrawn. Base SBI Card PRIME currently includes a one-year Club ITC Silver Tier membership, but whether the PSB variant carries it is unclear.

Airport lounge access

Lounge typeComplimentary visitsQuarterly limit
Domestic (India)8 per calendar year2
International (outside India, Priority Pass)4 per calendar year2

This matches the standard SBI Card PRIME entitlement and SBI Card’s own PSB page markets lounge access, but at least one comparison site claims the PSB variant ships with no complimentary lounge access at all. Confirm on your welcome kit or with SBI Card before you count on it.

Two things changed on 10 January 2026. First, SBI Card split its domestic lounge network into two lists; PRIME and co-branded PRIME variants sit in Set B, which covers roughly 30 lounges across Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and a dozen smaller airports. Second, every lounge entry now needs a card validation swipe at the lounge desk, ₹2 non-refundable on Visa and RuPay, or a ₹25 temporary hold on Mastercard. Priority Pass visits count only at lounges outside India; using Priority Pass at an Indian airport costs USD 27 plus taxes per person.

Insurance & protection covers

CoverAmountStatus
Fraud liability (lost or stolen card)₹1,00,000Active
Air accident cover₹50,00,000Withdrawn 15 August 2025

The fraud cover applies from 48 hours before you report the loss until the card is blocked. The ₹50 lakh air accident cover was discontinued across PSB SBI Card PRIME on 15 August 2025 and is gone. If you are reading an older review that still lists it, that review is out of date.

You also get 24×7 emergency card replacement, useful abroad, and up to three free add-on cards for family members aged 18 and over, sharing your credit limit.

Fees & Charges

Joining & annual fee, and how to get it waived

The joining fee is ₹2,999 and the renewal fee is ₹2,999, both plus 18% GST, which is ₹3,539 each time. The renewal fee is reversed if you spend ₹3,00,000 in the preceding card year. At ₹25,000 a month of spending you clear that comfortably; below about ₹20,000 a month you will pay the fee every year.

Forex markup

3.5% + GST on every foreign-currency transaction, which works out to about 4.13% all-in. That is standard for the segment and poor for a card that markets international lounge access. A ₹1,00,000 foreign trip costs you roughly ₹4,130 in markup alone. If you travel abroad more than once a year, keep a low-forex card for those spends.

Interest rate & finance charges

Up to 3.75% per month, which is 45% annualised, with a minimum of ₹25 per billing cycle [some sources still list 3.5% per month / 42% p.a.; SBI Card assigns the rate by customer profile, so check your own statement]. Interest applies from the transaction date once you carry any balance forward, and cash advances attract interest from day one.

Fuel surcharge waiver

1% of the transaction value is waived on fuel purchases between ₹500 and ₹4,000, capped at ₹250 per statement cycle. Fuel earns no reward points on this card, so the waiver is the entire benefit, worth at most ₹3,000 a year.

Cash advance & other charges

ChargeAmount
Cash advance fee2.5% of the amount, minimum ₹500
Overlimit fee2.5% of the overlimit amount, minimum ₹600
Late payment (₹0–₹500)Nil
Late payment (₹501–₹1,000)₹400
Late payment (₹1,001–₹10,000)₹750
Late payment (₹10,001–₹25,000)₹950
Late payment (₹25,001–₹50,000)₹1,100
Late payment (above ₹50,000)₹1,300
Payment dishonour2% of the payment, minimum ₹500
Reward redemption fee₹99 + GST per request
Card replacement₹100
Emergency card replacement abroadUSD 175
Add-on cardNil

Two charges added on 1 November 2025 are easy to walk into: 1% on education payments made through third-party apps such as CRED, Cheq or MobiKwik (paying the school or college directly on its own website or POS machine stays free), and 1% on any wallet load above ₹1,000. There are also reports of a 1% fee on utility bill payments crossing ₹50,000 in a billing cycle. Worth confirming, since utility spending is this card’s main draw.

All fees above are exclusive of GST unless stated; 18% GST applies on top of each.

Eligibility & Documents Required

  • Resident Indian, aged 21 or above
  • Regular income, salaried or self-employed, with a stable repayment record
  • Credit score of roughly 700+ in practice, though SBI Card publishes no cut-off and approval is never guaranteed
  • No published minimum income for the PSB variant [VERIFY]
  • A Punjab & Sind Bank relationship is not mandatory for the online route, but branch sourcing assumes one

Documents: PAN card (mandatory), identity proof (Aadhaar, passport, voter ID or driving licence), address proof, income proof (three months’ salary slips or bank statements, Form 16, or the latest ITR for self-employed applicants), and an Aadhaar-linked mobile number for OTP-based e-KYC.

The comparison is unkind in a specific way. If your spending is online and you do not need lounges, the Cashback SBI Card gives more value for a third of the fee. If you travel abroad or watch a lot of films, ELITE’s 1.99% forex and free movie tickets justify the extra ₹2,000, but only if you can spend ₹10 lakh a year. PRIME sits in between, and it wins only on the utility-bill rate and the easier ₹3 lakh fee waiver.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the annual fee of the PSB SBI Card PRIME, and how is it waived? The annual fee is ₹2,999 plus 18% GST, or ₹3,539. It is reversed if you spend ₹3,00,000 or more in the previous card membership year. The joining fee of ₹2,999 + GST is charged upfront and is not waivable, though the ₹3,000 welcome voucher effectively offsets it.

How many lounge visits does the PSB SBI Card PRIME give? Eight domestic visits per calendar year and four international Priority Pass visits, each capped at two per quarter, in line with the standard SBI Card PRIME entitlement. No minimum spend is required to unlock them. Since 10 January 2026, each domestic entry needs a validation swipe costing ₹2 on Visa and RuPay cards. Confirm your specific entitlement with SBI Card, as some sources list the PSB variant differently.

What is 1 reward point worth on this card? Four reward points equal ₹1, so one point is worth 25 paise. A redemption request costs ₹99 plus GST regardless of how many points you redeem, and points lapse 24 months after they are earned.

How do I get 5% back on utility bills? Register the biller as a standing instruction inside the SBI Card app or website so the bill is auto-debited from the card. That earns 20 reward points per ₹100, capped at 3,000 points a month, which is ₹15,000 of utility spend. Paying the same bill through a third-party app earns only the 2-point base rate.

Does the PSB SBI Card PRIME earn rewards on rent and fuel? No. Rent, fuel, wallet loads, government payments and online gaming earn zero reward points. Fuel does get a 1% surcharge waiver on transactions between ₹500 and ₹4,000, capped at ₹250 per statement cycle.

Is the ₹50 lakh air accident cover still available? No. It was withdrawn on 15 August 2025 and no longer applies to any PSB SBI Card PRIME. The ₹1 lakh fraud liability cover continues.

What is the minimum credit score needed? SBI Card publishes no cut-off. In practice applicants with scores around 700 and above and a clean repayment record fare better, but no score guarantees approval. The decision rests with SBI Card’s internal assessment.

Can I add family members to this card? Yes, up to three add-on cards at no fee, for immediate family aged 18 or above. They share your credit limit and all spends appear on your statement.

Do I earn points if I convert a purchase into Flexipay EMIs? You earn points on the original purchase value only. Converting it to EMI afterwards adds no further points, and the interest and processing charges earn nothing. Flexipay applies to transactions of ₹2,500 and above, requested within 30 days.

Bottom Line

The PSB SBI Card PRIME is a household-bills card wearing a premium card’s price tag. It makes sense for one specific person: someone spending ₹40,000–₹45,000 a month, routing ₹10,000–₹15,000 of monthly utility bills through SBI Card standing instructions, buying groceries and dining on the card, and taking three or four domestic flights a year. That profile collects roughly ₹11,000 in milestone vouchers, gets the ₹2,999 fee reversed, and lands somewhere near 3% blended value back. It works.

Skip it if you spend under ₹25,000 a month, because you will pay ₹3,539 every year for a 0.5% base rate. Skip it if your spending is mostly online, where the ₹999 Cashback SBI Card does better. Skip it if you travel abroad, because a 3.5% forex markup will erase the lounge benefit on a single trip. And skip it if you were attracted by the travel perks in older articles: the Vistara membership, the Trident tier and the ₹50 lakh air accident cover are all gone, and what remains is lounge access and a car-rental discount.

If you already hold this card and your utility bills do not run through standing instructions, fix that before your next renewal date. It is the difference between the card paying for itself and not.

Fees and features are as of 26 August 2026. SBI Card revises terms frequently, so confirm current charges and benefits on sbicard.com before you apply.
