HDFC Regalia Gold Credit Card Review: Is It Worth ₹2,950?

HDFC Regalia Gold Credit Card Review

At a Glance

Joining Fee ₹2,500 + GST (₹2,950 all in)
Annual Fee ₹2,500 + GST, waived on spends of ₹4 lakh in the year
Best Suited For Spenders of ₹4 lakh or more a year who redeem on SmartBuy and use Swiggy, MakeMyTrip, Myntra or Nykaa
Reward Type Reward Points, worth up to ₹0.65 each in HDFC’s Gold catalogue

The HDFC Regalia Gold is a mid-premium rewards card that pays you back in two ways: a base earn of 5 Reward Points per ₹200, and a pile of spend-linked vouchers that kick in at ₹1.5 lakh a quarter and ₹5 lakh a year. Joining costs ₹2,950 with GST.

If you cross ₹4 lakh of annual spend, the renewal fee goes away and the card starts to look like a good deal. If you spend less, the lounge and voucher benefits are hard to unlock and the fee is just a cost.

Rewards & Benefits

Reward rate and earn structure

Spend category Earn rate Cap
Retail spends 5 Reward Points per ₹200 50,000 Reward Points per statement cycle
Myntra, Nykaa, Reliance Digital and other select brands 5X Reward Points Counts within the 50,000 points cycle ceiling
Flights and hotels on SmartBuy Up to 10X Reward Points Counts within the 50,000 points cycle ceiling
Instant Vouchers on SmartBuy 5X Reward Points Counts within the 50,000 points cycle ceiling
Insurance spends Standard earn 2,000 Reward Points per month

Points are earned in blocks of ₹200, so a ₹390 purchase earns on ₹200 only. Online skill-based gaming earns nothing, and HDFC charges a 1% fee on utility spends above ₹50,000 and fuel spends above ₹15,000 in a month.

Redemption and point value

Redeem for Value of 1 Reward Point
Exclusive Gold catalogue ₹0.65
Flights and hotels ₹0.50
Airmiles conversion Up to 0.5 airmile
Products and vouchers Up to ₹0.35
Statement balance Page lists ₹0.15 in one place and ₹0.20 in another

The arithmetic: 5 points per ₹200 at ₹0.65 each is ₹3.25 back on ₹200, or 1.63%. On flights and hotels at ₹0.50 it is 1.25%.

Flights and hotels can be paid up to 70% with points. Each catalogue redemption request costs ₹99 + GST, and a cashback redemption costs ₹50 + GST, so batch your redemptions instead of doing many small ones.

Add-on card Free for life

To get the waiver you need ₹4 lakh in a year, which is about ₹33,000 a month.

Since the milestone vouchers start at ₹1.5 lakh a quarter, a household that routes groceries, dining, shopping and travel through this card gets there without forcing spends.

Rent, wallet loads and education payments through third party apps carry their own 1% fees, so keep them off this card.

The charge that catches people out is the lounge allowance. The 3 domestic visits a quarter depend on spending ₹60,000 in the quarter before, so a thin quarter means no lounge next quarter.

Regalia Gold vs Competitors

Within HDFC, the HDFC Regalia Credit Card is the older sibling with a fee of the same ₹2,500 and a waiver at ₹3 lakh a year.

Outside HDFC, travel-focused cards such as the Axis Bank Atlas and the SBI Card Elite compete for the same spender, and which is better depends on whether you value airline miles or SmartBuy vouchers. Compare the fee waiver and the lounge conditions on each issuer’s own page before you decide.

How to Apply

Apply on HDFC’s website with your phone number and date of birth or PAN, confirm your details and submit. HDFC may ask for documents and a video KYC.

You can also apply through NetBanking under the Cards tab if you are an existing customer, or at a branch. After the card arrives, spend ₹1 lakh in the first 90 days to unlock the welcome memberships.

Bottom Line

Get the Regalia Gold if you spend ₹4 lakh or more a year, redeem on SmartBuy or the Gold catalogue, and can use the Swiggy, MakeMyTrip, Myntra and Nykaa benefits.

At that level the fee is waived, the card returns about 1.6% in points, and the milestone vouchers add more on top.

Skip it if you spend under ₹2 lakh a year, want cashback, or need unconditional lounge access. At low spends you pay ₹2,950 and unlock almost nothing, and cashback redemption is the weakest way to use the points.
