RBL Bank Launched 3 Shoppers Stop Cards
RBL Bank and Shoppers Stop launched a three-tier co-branded credit card range on 21 August 2026: the Gold at ₹1,000, the Platinum at ₹5,000 and the Black at ₹10,000, all plus GST. We ran the numbers on all three. The Gold and the Black both make sense for the right shopper. The Platinum, sitting in the middle at ₹5,900 after GST, does not beat either one at any level of spending we could find.
That is not a headline we write often, so here is the working, and you can check it yourself.
What’s on Offer
| Feature | Shoppers Stop Gold | Shoppers Stop Platinum | Shoppers Stop Black |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annual fee (excl. GST) | ₹1,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹10,000 |
| Fee with 18% GST | ₹1,180 | ₹5,900 | ₹11,800 |
| Points at Shoppers Stop | 10 RP per ₹200 | 10 RP per ₹200 | 15 RP per ₹200 |
| 1 Reward Point is worth | ₹0.25 | ₹0.50 | ₹1 |
| Effective rate at Shoppers Stop | 1.25% | 2.5% | 7.5% |
| Points on other spends | 4 RP per ₹200 | 4 RP per ₹200 | 4 RP per ₹200 |
| Effective rate elsewhere | 0.5% | 1% | 2% |
| First Citizen Club membership | Gold (₹750) | Platinum (₹1,500) | Black (₹4,500) |
| Welcome voucher + gift | Gift worth ₹1,000 | ₹2,000 + ₹2,000 | ₹3,000 + ₹3,000 |
| Quarterly milestone | ₹500 on ₹1L | ₹1,000 on ₹1.5L | ₹1,500 on ₹2.5L |
| Annual milestone | ₹1,000 on ₹3.5L | ₹1,500 on ₹5L | ₹2,500 on ₹8L |
An 18% GST applies on top of every fee above. Notice the trick in rows three and four. The Gold and the Platinum earn the same 10 points per ₹200. What separates them is what a point is worth, 25 paise against 50 paise. Banks advertise the points; the value sits in the terms and conditions. That gap is the entire story of this launch.
On the Black card, accelerated points stop at 1,500 a month, which you hit at ₹20,000 of Shoppers Stop spend, and points on everything else stop at 500 a month. RBL Bank has not published the equivalent caps for the Gold and the Platinum yet.
Who Is Affected
All three are new products, so no existing RBL Bank cardholder loses anything here. The range is aimed squarely at Shoppers Stop First Citizen shoppers, because every variant bundles a paid First Citizen Club tier worth ₹750 to ₹4,500. If you already pay for First Citizen separately, deduct that cost from the fee before you judge the card.
Rewards and milestones exclude fuel, utilities, insurance, rent, education, government payments, wallet loads, railways and EMI conversions, so a large slice of a typical household’s spending earns nothing on any of the three.
What This Means for You
Take a shopper spending ₹20,000 a month at Shoppers Stop, which is ₹2.4 lakh a year. That is a serious Shoppers Stop customer, well above average. Here is what each card earns, minus the GST-inclusive fee:
| Card | Rewards earned | Fee paid | Net gain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold | ₹3,000 | ₹1,180 | +₹1,820 |
| Platinum | ₹6,000 | ₹5,900 | +₹100 |
| Black | ₹18,000 | ₹11,800 | +₹6,200 |
A full year of loyal spending on the Platinum leaves you ₹100 ahead. The ₹1,000 card leaves you eighteen times better off, and the card that costs five times more earns you less.
At this spend level none of the three cards reaches its milestone thresholds, so the comparison above is clean and no card is being unfairly denied a voucher.
So When Is the Platinum Worth It?
We looked for the crossover point, and it does not arrive.
The Platinum only overtakes the Gold when the extra 1.25% covers the extra ₹4,720 of fee, and that needs roughly ₹32,000 a month at Shoppers Stop. But the Black overtakes the Gold at about ₹14,000 a month, because its ₹1 point value is four times the Gold’s.
Read those two numbers together. Anyone spending enough to justify the Platinum passed the threshold for the Black long ago. Below ₹14,000 a month, take the Gold. Above it, take the Black. The Platinum’s window is a window that never opens.
There is one honest exception. In year one the welcome benefits change the picture, because RBL Bank values the Platinum’s welcome voucher, gift and membership at ₹5,500, against ₹1,750 on the Gold. On the bank’s own valuations the Platinum wins the first year. Those valuations are the bank’s, not ours, and they never repeat. From year two the card is back to earning you ₹100.
What to Take Instead
- RBL Bank Shoppers Stop Gold, ₹1,180 all in. The sane default if you shop there occasionally.
- RBL Bank Shoppers Stop Black, worth the ₹11,800 only above ₹14,000 a month at Shoppers Stop, and only if you will actually spend the vouchers.
- A flat-rate cashback card, if Shoppers Stop is one of many places you shop. Rates of 0.5% to 2% on everything else are beaten by most no-frills cashback cards.
Before You Apply, Check This Yourself
Do not take our number, or anyone else’s. Do this in two minutes:
- Open your last six Shoppers Stop bills and find your real monthly average. Most people guess high.
- Multiply that by 12, then by the effective rate: 1.25%, 2.5% or 7.5%.
- Subtract the fee including GST, not the advertised fee.
- Ignore the welcome gift. It arrives once; the fee arrives every year.
If step 3 gives you a number close to zero, the card is not paying you. It is paying the bank.
FAQs
Is the RBL Shoppers Stop Platinum a bad card? It is not badly built, and 2.5% back is a fair rate. The problem is its price next to the two cards beside it. At ₹5,900 it is beaten by a ₹1,180 card at normal spends and by the ₹11,800 card at high spends.
Which of the three should most people take? The Gold. It costs ₹1,180 and carries the First Citizen membership, and most shoppers do not spend the ₹14,000 a month that justifies moving up.
Is the annual fee waived on spends? RBL Bank has not published a spend-based fee waiver for any variant. Milestone vouchers replace it.
Do the rewards apply to all spending? No. Fuel, utilities, insurance, rent, education, government payments, wallet loads, railways and EMI conversions are excluded from both points and milestones.
Bottom Line
Get the Gold if you shop at Shoppers Stop occasionally and want the First Citizen membership for ₹1,180. Get the Black if you genuinely spend ₹14,000 a month or more there and will use the vouchers.
Skip the Platinum entirely. Skip all three if most of your spending happens away from Shoppers Stop, because 0.5% to 2% on other categories is poor and a plain cashback card will serve you better.
Watch for two things: the reward caps on the Gold and the Platinum, which RBL Bank has not disclosed, and whether the launch-period welcome benefits carry on past the first year.
