SBI Card Adds 1% Fee on Fuel Above ₹50,000 a Cycle and Transport Bills Above ₹30,000 From 1 December 2026
Updated 28 October 2026 · By Amit Kumar Bansal
SBI Card is adding two new charges from 1 December 2026. If your fuel spends cross ₹50,000 in one billing cycle, you pay 1% on the whole fuel amount. Any single transport transaction above ₹30,000 also attracts a 1% fee. SBI posted both notices on 27 October 2026.
What’s Changing
| Spend | Until 30 November | From 1 December 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Fuel (MCC 5172, 5541, 5542, 5983) | No fee | 1% of total fuel spend if it exceeds ₹50,000 in a billing cycle |
| Transport (MCC 4111, 4784, 4131) | No fee | 1% of the transaction if one transaction exceeds ₹30,000 |
What This Means for You
Most people will never hit these limits. The fuel fee is a cliff, not a slab: ₹60,000 of fuel in a cycle costs ₹600, plus GST, on the full amount. Fleet owners and small businesses that run all their diesel or toll recharges through one SBI card are the ones who pay.
If you are close to ₹50,000, move some fuel to another card. The notice names no card exceptions, so BPCL SBI Card holders should confirm with SBI Card.
As shown on the SBI Card customer notices page on 28 October 2026. Confirm on the issuer’s site before planning big spends.
