HDFC Millennia Credit Card Review

Joining Fee Annual Fee Best Suited For Reward Type
₹1,000 + GST ₹1,000 + GST (waived on ₹1,00,000 spend in a year) Online shoppers on Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy and Zomato CashBack as CashPoints (1 CashPoint = ₹1)

The HDFC Bank Millennia is HDFC’s best-known cashback card. It pays 5% on ten online brands, 1% on most other spends, and a ₹1,000 voucher if you spend ₹1,00,000 in a calendar quarter.

Unlike HDFC’s points cards, one CashPoint here is worth a full ₹1, so the 5% is a real 5%. What limits it is the cap: each earning bucket stops at 1,000 CashPoints a month.

This review covers what the card pays, where the caps bite, the fee, and who should pick it over the alternatives.

Rewards & Benefits

Reward rate and earn structure

You earn 5% CashBack on Amazon, BookMyShow, Cult.fit, Flipkart, Myntra, Sony LIV, Swiggy, Tata CLiQ, Uber and Zomato, capped at 1,000 CashPoints (₹1,000) a month.

Everything else earns 1%, also capped at 1,000 CashPoints a month. Both caps run on a calendar month, and points post in the first week of the following month.

Spend type CashBack Monthly cap Spend that hits the cap
Ten partner brands (online, non-EMI) 5% 1,000 CashPoints (₹1,000) ₹20,000
All other eligible spends 1% 1,000 CashPoints (₹1,000) ₹1,00,000
SmartBuy or PayZapp Shop Up to 10% on select brands As per the offer Not applicable

Two details trip people up. The 5% applies only when the merchant’s terminal ID is mapped to the brand, so a purchase that does not register is paid at 1% or nothing.

Uber earns 5% only on rides coded as commute spends (MCC 4121). Fuel, EMI, wallet loads, rent and government payments earn no CashBack.

Gift card loads and voucher purchases are paid at 1%. Education paid through third-party apps earns nothing, while payments made on the school’s own website or machine do earn.

Redemption and point value

Statement redemption values one CashPoint at ₹1, and you need 500 CashPoints to redeem.

On SmartBuy flights and hotels, and on airmiles, one point is worth ₹0.30, so statement credit is by far the best route.

HDFC’s product page says cashback redemption is capped at 3,000 points a month. Points lapse after 2 years. Fees paid on the card earn no points.

Welcome and milestone benefits

HDFC’s card terms promise a welcome benefit of 1,000 CashPoints, worth ₹1,000, if you pay the joining fee. That nearly cancels the first-year fee of ₹1,180 with GST.

The quarterly milestone is the other perk: spend ₹1,00,000 in a calendar quarter (January to March, April to June, and so on) and you receive a ₹1,000 gift voucher.

HDFC sends an SMS within 30 working days, the voucher choice is final, and the link stays valid for 120 days. EMI and Smart EMI principal does not count towards the target.

Travel, dining and lounge access

The product page still says the milestone can be taken as one domestic lounge visit instead of the voucher.

HDFC’s own terms document, published 25 April 2025, says complimentary domestic lounge access ended on 1 December 2023. Treat lounge access as not available and plan around the voucher.

Other benefits are modest: a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on fuel bills from ₹400 to ₹5,000, with a maximum waiver of ₹250 per statement cycle, plus 10% extra off on Swiggy Dineout bills using code HDFCCARDS.

Fees & Charges

Charge Amount
Joining fee ₹1,000 + GST
Renewal fee ₹1,000 + GST
Renewal waiver ₹1,00,000 spend in a year before the renewal date
Interest on unpaid balance 3.75% per month (45% a year)
Late payment Nil up to ₹100, then ₹100 to ₹1,300 by outstanding balance
Cash advance 2.5% of the amount or ₹500, whichever is higher
Fuel surcharge waiver 1%, max ₹250 per cycle
Interest-free period Up to 50 days

With 18% GST the annual fee is ₹1,180. The waiver needs ₹1,00,000 of spend a year, about ₹8,400 a month.

If you route your Amazon and Swiggy orders plus everyday shopping through the card, you will cross it. If your spends sit near ₹4,000 a month, you will pay the fee every year, and the 5% bucket has to earn that back first.

The charge that catches people out is the cap, not a fee. Spend ₹30,000 a month at the ten partner brands and you earn the same ₹1,000 as someone spending ₹20,000. Everything above ₹20,000 falls back to nothing in that bucket.

Millennia vs Competitors

The usual rivals are the SBI Cashback Card, the Axis Flipkart card and the Amazon Pay ICICI card.

Millennia wins on breadth: ten brands including food delivery, ticketing and cabs, where the others favour one marketplace. It loses on the cap and the age limit. Within HDFC, the PIXEL Go is cheaper at ₹250, and the UPI RuPay card costs only ₹99, though both earn far less per rupee.

How to Apply

  1. Open the HDFC Bank Millennia page and tap Apply Now.
  2. Enter your mobile number and date of birth or PAN, and validate them.
  3. Confirm your details and select the Millennia card.
  4. Submit, and complete document upload or video KYC if HDFC asks for it.

Existing HDFC customers can also apply through NetBanking or a branch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the annual fee of the HDFC Millennia card?

It is ₹1,000 + GST, the same as the joining fee. Spend ₹1,00,000 in a year before the renewal date and the renewal fee is waived.

Which brands earn 5% on Millennia?

Ten brands earn 5%: Amazon, BookMyShow, Cult.fit, Flipkart, Myntra, Sony LIV, Swiggy, Tata CLiQ, Uber and Zomato. EMI purchases are excluded, and the cap is 1,000 CashPoints a month.

Does Millennia give lounge access?

No. HDFC’s terms say complimentary domestic lounge access ended on 1 December 2023. The quarterly milestone gives a ₹1,000 voucher, although the product page still mentions a lounge option.

What is the minimum salary for the Millennia card?

A salaried applicant needs a net monthly income above ₹35,000. A self-employed applicant needs an annual ITR above ₹6,00,000. Both must be aged 21 to 40.

How much is one CashPoint worth?

It is ₹1 against your statement balance, with a minimum of 500 points. It drops to ₹0.30 on SmartBuy flights and hotels.

Do fuel and rent earn CashBack?

No. Fuel, rent, EMI, wallet loads and government payments earn no CashBack, though fuel gets a 1% surcharge waiver of up to ₹250 a cycle.

Bottom Line

Get the Millennia if you shop on Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy or Zomato every month, spend roughly ₹20,000 across those ten brands, and want a card whose points are worth a flat ₹1. At that level it earns ₹12,000 a year from the 5% bucket alone.

Skip it if you are over 40, travel often and want lounge access, or spend mostly on fuel, rent and EMIs, which earn nothing.

Light spenders who will not reach ₹1,00,000 a year should also compare lower-fee options. Fees and features are as of the update date, so check HDFC’s site before applying.
