The HSBC Visa Platinum Credit Card is HSBC India’s lifetime free card: no joining fee, no annual fee and no fee for add-on cards.

It earns 2 reward points per ₹150, which you can move instantly to Air India, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Marriott Bonvoy and others from the HSBC India app. Since its move to Visa Signature it also carries a 12-month Times Prime membership, MakeMyTrip perks and a quarterly fuel cashback.

There is no lounge access, and HSBC only issues it in 21 cities. This review works out what the points are worth and who should carry it.

Rewards & Benefits

Reward rate and earn structure

Spend Reward points
All eligible purchases 2 per ₹150, no monthly cap published
Hotels, flights and car rentals on Travel with Points Up to 6 times the base rate
Apple purchases on the HSBC Unicorn portal 5 times the base rate
Utilities, tax, rent, jewellery, insurance, fuel, wallet loads, education, government, EMI and cash 0

Add-on card spends earn points too, but only the primary cardholder can redeem them. Points follow a rolling 3-year expiry: points earned in your first card year lapse at the end of your third card year, and so on.

Redemption and point value

Partner HSBC points for 1 partner point
Air India, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Etihad, Qatar, Air France-KLM, JAL, Qantas, Thai, EVA, Vietnam Airlines 2
United MileagePlus 3
Turkish Airlines, Hainan Airlines 4
airasia rewards 1 point = 2 airasia points
Accor, IHG, Marriott Bonvoy, Wyndham 2
Shangri-La Circle 10

Accor is the easiest partner to price, because HSBC states that 2,000 Accor points are worth EUR 40, or ₹3,560.

That takes 4,000 HSBC points, so each point is worth about ₹0.89 and the card returns roughly 1.2% on eligible spends.

Gift cards, Apple products and merchandise are also available in the app, but HSBC does not publish a fixed rupee value for them, so check the catalogue before redeeming.

That offer runs until 31 December 2026. Fuel itself earns no points.

Fees & Charges

GST at 18% applies to all fees and interest. There is no fee to waive, so the only thing to manage is paying in full. HSBC charges the late fee only if the minimum due is not received within 3 days of the due date.

The charge that catches people out is interest from the date of transaction. If you carry any balance, every new purchase attracts 3.75% a month from the day you make it, and the 48-day free period disappears until you clear the full amount.

Does HSBC Visa Platinum give lounge access?

No. HSBC does not list airport lounge access on this card.

What is an HSBC Platinum reward point worth?

About ₹0.89 when transferred to Accor, based on HSBC’s own valuation of 2,000 Accor points at ₹3,560. Airline transfers mostly run at 2 HSBC points per mile.

What is the minimum salary for HSBC Visa Platinum?

₹6 lakh a year for salaried applicants and ₹12 lakh a year for the self-employed.

Yes. Points earned in your first card year expire at the end of your third card year, points from the second year at the end of the fourth, and so on.

Bottom Line

Get the HSBC Visa Platinum if you live in one of HSBC’s 21 cities, want a card that costs nothing to keep, and are happy to move points to Accor or an airline, where they return about 1.2%.

It also makes a good free second card for its 48-day interest-free period. Skip it if you want lounge access or low forex charges, since it offers neither.

Skip it too if you want simple cashback, because the points only shine when transferred, or if your main spends are utilities, insurance or rent, which earn nothing.
